Dear SoCal friends,

Enjoyed riding so much in SoCal last summer that I will be coming back in August for 3 weeks (Aug 10 to Sept 2).
Main reason will be to work at UCI, but I will certainly be bringing my bike along.
Hope to ride with some of you.
I am currently looking for a place to stay (small minimally furnished apt with internet access). If you know of anything, please PM me and let me know.

Can't help you with places to stay near Irvine, but definitely looking forward to riding together again. :)

Likewise. I'll be on the lookout for announced rides when I arrive in town.
Hope to do Baldy or something equivalent again this time.

Very nice to meet you Louis! I hope you enjoyed the Baldy ride and many more to come. Always great to talk hockey with a friendly Canadian. :)

It was very nice to meet you, Louis. I look forward to your return. Such a gentleman...;):)

As for a place in Irvine...sigh...I, too, am of no help to you as I'm too far north and don't know the area or rentals.

Great riding with you. :) Maybe something this coming weekend, too? I'm probably going to be on Baldy again.

Yeah, it was great riding with you today, Louis.

Sorry for the broken front spoke. Hopefully you'll be able to get a new set of wheels in the next few days.

BTW, I think Louis has a place to stay by now; but if you Irvine bunch can recommend a place for him to get spoke/wheelset discounts in Irvine, that will help him out. :)

Thanks you guys (& gals!) !
I had a great time too today on Baldy.
SoCal people (well, mainly SoCal BF members) are the best!
I will post a report in the Baldy report thread in a few minutes.
I first have to download some pictures from my camera.
As DaveSanYYZ mentioned, I indeed do have a place to stay now in Irvine (University Hills), but now what I need is a pair of wheels. If any of you have a decent pair of wheels they want to get rid of, let me know!

You can't just replace the spoke?

You can't just replace the spoke?

Yes, I can and I will.
However, last year, the same problem happened with my rear wheel.
One spoke broke, then another, then a third...
I had to get the whole wheel relaced.
I think these wheels are just badly built.
I'll keep them as spares I guess or for the trainer.
By the way Efficiency, thanks so much for your help when I had my tire blow up on me!

Could you check with UCI student housing? There's apartments around and your time slot is during the second summer session and before the fall quarter. Sublet from a student.

Nice to meet you Louie! Holler next time you make it to Vegas. Maybe purchase a protection plan with your new wheelset. :)

Likewise!
I will have to try to find a scientific meeting happening in Vegas as a good excuse to go and ride with you!
I was there last summer and I did not even suspect that people rode bicycles there...
It was so hot!

Louis

Hey Cyn,

Being back in Montreal now, I would reply that a little cold does not stop us from riding either...
However, I have to admit that I prefer to ride with hot lady roadies than cold ones... ;)

Finally got some new wheels at the last minute, just before leaving SoCal! (thanks Brandy!) Just need to do a few adjustments on the bike after unpacking it tonight and I can't wait to go and give these a try. I will start with the route used every year for the UCI woman's cycling world cup held every year in Montreal on the mountain (nothing as big as Baldy however...).

Looking forward to coming back to SoCal. I'll be in San Diego for a meeting during the first week of November. However, not sure I will be able to bring the bike.
If any of you drop by Montreal, let me know!

Even if not for a bike ride, remind us a little before your SD trip and we'll have a drink or something.

Sure. I will. I've been to SD a couple of times before, but it was strictly for business. I would not mind finding out where the good places to have a drink are!
