Well I'm not sure how to answer this question... Since where else would NON-riding riders be???

Since you can have more than one vehicle, they could be in the other one (off course), or someplace sleeping :D . If you have a team of 4 riders and only one is riding, the other 3 need to be in the following car?

Other races of this same type, including the one starting in Santa Clarita in October, are WAY MORE EXPENSIVE than the Hoodoo!
Deb, I'm the one who started that and you are correct! Just ignore me, as I'm no racer (some on here are laughing at that and saying "no, sh$t, sherlock), and I'm not the right audience. However, with that said, I might get talked into it! :p

OK, now I get your question. No, they don't have to be in the follow vehicle. However, once I get around to posting the suggested team strategies, you'll see that both cars are follow vehicles and the race is absolutely non-stop, with no time to go off and sleep. There's NO SLEEP in a four-person relay team... Just continuous racing fun!

Just wondering, I see it more useful to be able to get cleaned up or eat and not have to be in the chase car at all times.

Are you going to publish any type of route prior to the event, or just the basic areas that it traverses?

Trust me, it's more fun to RACE this type of event than to just "do it." Fast teams can be done in 22-24 hours. You're not supposed to be clean, or have a meal, or rest up. It's a RACE!!! Besides, how can you be part of a TEAM if you're not right there being part of it - helping your teammate when they're on the bike; and being a constant source of encouragement and comaraderie by BEING PRESENT.
;-)

You'll have a better idea about how it works once I get the Relay Team Strategy information up on the website. Now that our Spring Doubles and KOM Challenge are over, it's my priority. Stay tuned to the website for that, ok?

We're going to Utah next week, a few days of our Tour of Southern Utah, to scout the first leg of the race and get the first time station situated. When we get back, we'll post the route. But just by reading the description on the website, you can figure out 99% of the route. There just aren't that many roads in Utah!!!

I read the fine print and it looks like the 4-man teams crew themselves and don't need a fifth wheel tagging along.:( I hope you guys do it! And the pug, too.

I got a request to help crew a 2-man team which I am seriously considering. It looks like fun and perhaps a good way to see if the 2008 event is doable for me as a rider. The sickness spreads.

Of course it's doable to you as a rider. It's two days of about 60 miles (spread out over multiple shifts if you'd like since there's no rules about rider exchange) for each rider if you want to do a four person team. Very doable even if you stay a tri geek. Quite enjoyable if we convert you to exclusively a cutie roadie.

This all makes sense now, he kept asking how I changed clothes at the GT triple. Now I know why he looked so clean and fresh at the ESD. He didn’t think I was watching him, I found him the day before out planting clean clothes along the route. The day of the ride, he would sprint off ahead of me and with some baby wipes and clean clothes he was ready to go. He’s been planning this Hoodoo 500 thing for awhile.

I should have figured this would happen after I dumped DZ for you, Jason. Perhaps I won't divorce you after all. I'll need crew in 2008. ;)

BTW, my run totally sucked this morning. I was planning on intervals on the rubber track, but all I kept thinking was, "Hmm, maybe I should save my hammies and put in some hill training tomorrow..."

So that's it! Now I know why the mirror attached to his helmet is the size of a dinner plate! :p

Just a little reminder that the early registration for the Hoodoo 500 closes July 31st. On August 1 the entry fee goes up... So if you're racing, get your forms in.

The Hoodoo 500 has now broken the record for the largest ever field for an inaugural event of this distance. We're really stoked to have our first solo woman on the roster, Janet Christiansen.

We've just come back from our Tour of Southern Utah where we put the finishing touches on the race including ordering super awesome plaques for the winners and medals for all finishers! It's going to be a great race! Join us!

OK all you chickens who AREN'T racing this month...
;-)

If anyone is interested in officiating, we're looking for a couple more folks to either man time stations or assist as roving course officials.

We'll cover your expenses for the weekend, provide a nice race t-shirt, a ticket to the post-race breakfast banquet, and a raffle ticket (we have some really nice prizes to give away!).

Please send an email to embassy@planetultra.com if you'd like more information!
