Me: Entire Led Zeppelin Catalog.
Yeah.. me too. Tho, there is one song..
I know some ppl like to hates on the 'stairway to heaven' .. I always rocked out to that. My assumption is it just gets played to death on the airwaves - hence the haters.. right (?)

1. Never have seen the big deal with Eric Clapton. It's like Blues for people who prefer their Blues with absolutely no soul whatsoever.
I like you Krispitofferson.
2. Except for perhaps the first couple albums, Sting's entire solo career.
I'm going to place my trust is your judgement here. Worry not.. it's no leap of faith.
3. Anything by John Cougar Mellencamp, Bruce Springsteen, U2 and REM post 1990.
Yeah.. Jesus Christ that Mellen guy sux. Bruce Springsteen? I like that one chic song about the secret garden. The dood is a ladies man, he gets it. I give him his dues for that. Absolutely.
U2, REM .. can't really comment. But I'm going to take a intrepid leap into the unknown and say that without a doubt they are overwhelmingly vapid and suck filled, based solely on the fact that they appeal so much to the masses..
and the masses = highly suggestive sheep bubbles.
^^(btw, human nature's definition, not mine).
If you like any of the above, it's probably a good sign you are well past middle age and your kids are very embarrassed of you. Drop them off a little distance from wherever they're going.
You like making excuses for ppl don't you. Some of the best, most innovative music - evar (in the entire history of humanity) came from america during the era that the baby-boom generation were in their formative years - acquiring their musical tastes and what not.
such as:
-Stevie Wonder and Wonder love years ('71 - '76)
-Miles Davis foray into electric-fusion stuff (~ '68 - 74) ..
-James Brown, Sly Stone, Funkadelic
-Last Poets
-Jimi Hendrix
-Herbie & teh HeadHunters, Mahavishnu Orchestra..
And many others..
The generation that has just now arrived at middle age 'should' have the best of tastes imo .. they 'should' have a thing or two to teach this generation about what is real music. But more likely they're into, I dunno.. Kenny g, or George Benson (the older wealthier sell out - not the younger G w/ talent).
so sad. so sad .. Why can't the baby boomers at least put on a Johnny Cash record for christ sakes?! .. enough with the corny 'classic rock' and 80's yuppy musak, or whatever.

Now, I came to rock rather late in life. Mostly my thirties. But when I get into something I really dive in head first. So the entire rock catalogue was all new to me as I listed to tons of stuff in the 90's. I tasted everything from Buddy Holly to Sonic Youth (and beyond).
My "dead-to-me Classic Album List:
Led Zepplin (all)
Grateful Dead (all)
Eric Clapton (all)
Jimi Hendrix (all)
The Doors (all)
Boston (all)
Styx (all)
Van Halen (all)
Aerosmith (all)
AC/DC (all)
Metallica (all)
Guns and Roses (all)
Kiss (all)
Michael Jackson (all)
Red Hot Chilli Peppers (all)
Bruce Sprinstein (all)
Genisis (all)
Bon Jovi (all)
I'm sure I'm leaving plenty off.
You may ask, "what then do you actually like"? Well, come to my house. I have a collection in the thousands, and thousands, of great vinyl and CDs. The Beatles I love (but not as much as many... I have my skeptical moments with them). REM-love 'em, even the recent stuff. Nirvana. Liz Phair (early stuff). Green Day (not everything), Oasis (some), Blur, Radiohead, Yo La Tengo, Tom Waits, The Shins, Guided By Voices, Pink Floyd, Death Cab For Cutie. I could go on and on. I like tons of stuff, but I don't buy into 'fashion' or what others say I should like. It speaks to me or it doesn't.
uhm.. dood..
dood.
There must be some 'reasonable' explanation for this ? ..
So many of the bands you dislike suggest someone who is likely of highly distinguished tastes! .. but. dood...
oh.. my God ? .. what (?) _______?

And we agree on the idea that too much sameness is boring. I don't want everybody to sound like the Beatles. When I say Hendrix sounds nothing like them I mean it, but I don't dislike Hendrix for that reason. I want as much variety in music as I can get. I listen to everything from ancient Medieval music to the current Radiohead album. But I screen out that which doesn't push my buttons (whatever those are... I still am not always sure what it is that does it.) And I am very opinionated for sure... I know that rubs some the wrong way.
Yeah man.. 'not' sounding like the beatles is a 'good' thing. Very good thing !!
Yeah, you're right... not a fan of electric Miles. But, his early to mid stuff is just so awesome. Maybe I'm stuck in a kind of traditional thing. That said, I also agree with you that jazz shouldn't (and isn't) a temple of purity. I LOVE the current jazz scene today. Tons of truly great stuff getting recorded right now. I love Brad Mehldau, The Bad Plus, the singer Tierney Sutton, Jason Moran, Joshua Redman, etc.
oh, I get it now. I get it .. gfrance - you must be Wynton Marsalis!! .. but wait. you said you play the 'sax' - and you like the beatles and other stuff - stuff that wynton marsalis 'probably' wouldn't be a big fan of. I dunno.. honestly I can't figure it. I always regarded marsalis as a be-bop fanatic .. be-bop was his bubble and his universe and anything outside of be-bop simply wasn't real to him, (because he existed inside his be-bop bubble universe of course). But I really can't explain for how somebody can have an appreciation for at least some certain types of pop/rock music (i.e. be able appreciate rock music like teh beatles) - and in addition also be appreciating the 'genius' of coltrane - and yet, 'not' like anything by hendrix?! .. or not like any of Miles electric stuff? .. what about the eminently listenable 'In A Silent Way' .. no love for that? What about Filles de Kilimanjaro - or Water Babies? where exactly do 'you' personally draw the line with respect to your appreciation for the music of Miles ? .. okay, you know.. to each there own. To each there own .. To each there own.. -planet.
seriously gfrance .. Try as I might - I really can not understand where you and ppl like you are coming from (?) .. srsly, I just don't see it. can't envision it - nor imagine it really.. in any way. Lack of imagination on my part perhaps? .. I hope so!! .. I hope so. Maybe one day I will 'get it' tho, (or, more likely - I will grow old enough that I just won't care anymore..). But for now at least - it is 'somewhat' frustrating for me.
tho.. I would 'like' to 'understand' -- rather than just argue or critique, (or whatever) .. really I would. I would like for one of us (or even both of us) - to see from where the other is coming.. yeah, sure - why not.

You probably don't like '*****es Brew' or Miles' later stuff, eh? How about Sun Ra? Jazz is no temple to be kept pure. At least that is how I feel. Coltrane laid his soul on that record. It is beautiful. I'm sorry you don't hear it.
word.
thanku for offering a worthy redemption to redeem the thread. You saved it .. Yes, I serious!!
B!tches Brew = teh Mega-Mega-Tonne H-B0MB .. really and truly. oh, so pretty. So dark and beautiful.
yes.. I also loves Jack Johnson, and Live evil - I have love for a lot of the stuff that came 'after' (there really wasn't all that much tho - compared to what there was in the four-five years preceding it ) .. but imo - it never got any more better and it never got any more 'real' than the 'original' recipe, teh *****es Brew. Absolutely.

You can't just not like all of Led Zeppelin.
I knew a Dolt (I said DOLT) who said he didn't like the Beatles.
If you can't find a few songs you just aren't trying.

[U]Red Hot Chili Peppers: What kind of country is this where these guys can make hundreds of millions of $$ and the members of Fishbone - another punk/funk/ska band from LA with only 27 times more talent is living on welfare checks and some miserly royalties?
Except that John Frusciante is perhaps the best guitar player currently playing.....he is so underrated.
