I have a question about Kool Stop brake pads. Do the salmon colored ones work ok in the wet rainy conditions? With my old black Shimano pads in the wet, the rims would get all grey and mucky, will the Kool Stop's leave a nasty color and muck all over the wheels in wet conditions? I know it's kind of a weird question, but I was just curious as I have never had Kool Stop pads.

The muck and color isn't from the brake pads per se. When you ride in wet conditions sand and dirt will stick on your rim causing an abrasive action . In my experience I find the salmon and red wet condition Kool Stop pads seem to clear off the rim better than other pads I have used.

The "salmon" pads are The One. You see, this is the "formula" held under the Scott/Mathauser patent for their famous pads that incorporated iron oxide (redness). Kool Stop has acquired the rights to produce, and the salmon pads are that color for a reason other than aesthetics.

Kool Stop also makes a combo pad with their standard compound and the salmon, together. I've seen it in cantilever and vee brake pads.

I always thought they were for the wet because they are the same color as fish.
