Want to meet your Century-a-Month goal for July without trying hard?
Need more glorious junk miles, completely devoid of intrinsic, moral, or training value?
Want to avoid summertime inland rides with all the heat and pesky hills?
The Slacker's Century is for you!
When: July 15th
Time: meet 7:30, roll 8:00 - Slackers can't start too early
Start: 10176 Adams Ave Hunt. Bch. 92646 (Los Primos Cantina at Brookhurst and Adams)
What: Out and back Century from HB to Oceanside via Pendelton, approx 106 miles (<3000ft climbing, but you will hardly notice)
Stops: Yes. Coffee. Snacks. Posing.
Post-Ride: Eat at Los Primos Cantina.
Be Sure to Bring: Drivers Licence/ID to get into Camp Pendelton
We could do this starting from either Huntington Beach or Oceanside, but a) I've never eaten at Los Primos, and b) I was trying to be nice to the BFers not smart enough to be living in SD County. No Amtrak schedule to worry about.
UPDATE: There is a Bikely routemap/cuesheet here - http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/50781
It has the Oceanside Pier as the turnaround/lunch stop. Still need to identify a nearby food source for the ravenous hordes.
UPDATE UPDATE: Based on all the pansy-ass whining about going through San Clemente on El Camino Real, I have updated the route map to take the designated bike route winding through residential streets. The directions were provided by Extort so if we end up lost, forever lost, blame him. The new route is here - http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/55030. As for lunch, it has been determined that after stopping at Oceanside Pier, we will swarm over the surrounding area and forage randomly for food like an angry swarm of army ants.

Isn't HB in OC? Or were you referring to Hermosa Beach?

Century for slackers? Depends whether I'll be too lazy to get up that morning...
Sounds like fun. I'm seriously considering it. And it sounds like something I might invite Tracy for if the intended pace is relaxed enough.
My last weekend before heading down to Del Mar...
One can ride when in Del Mar. The base of Torrey Pines is basically at the intersection of Del Mar and La Jolla. A former daily (well, four times a week) ride of mine took me into Del Mar to train me in preparation for Mt Soledad (in turn in preparation for Mt Baldy). I actually kind of miss that route... 16 miles, with a nasty steep section right in the middle--after climbing into Del Mar, turned right onto Del Mar Heights Rd, where the road got even steeper--and Torrey Pines on the way back.
And many a weekend ride of mine has returned home via Del Mar.

Correction: One can ride in Del Mar if one is not working. :( I'll be there for the race meet. I'll bring my bike along, and maybe I can sneak in a few free hours between the end of training hours and first post. Only thing is the lack of shower facilities. I can't use the jockeys' showers and I don't want to see my clients stinky, and with helmet hair.

Does this mean we all have to chip in and buy Tiff lunch?
This ride meets all my requirements; it's only a couple of miles from my house (that's a big one), I don't have my daughter that weekend and finally, a Mr. serious lingua burrito at the end of the ride.
I'm in!

The pace will depend somewhat on who shows up but in any case this is a no-drop ride.
This would be a great ride for me because:
1. I've never participated in a century ride (with or without SoCal BF'ers), so…
2. This wouldn't be junk miles for me;
3. As I matter of fact, I've never ridden more than 46 miles in one ride, so…
a. Either I'm in idiot to think I can do this, or…
b. I will lose all the weight necessary to get back down to my ideal weight, or…
c. I might give up cycling for good, or…
d. I'll complete it alive and be addicted for life!
4. I live in Huntington Beach so the starting location would be ultra conveeeeeeeeeeeenient for me;
5. I'd be the noob so you could...
a. Either pick on me unmercifully, or...
b. Answer all my bike questions incorrectly (on purpose [see 'a']), or...
c. Drop me because I’m the noob asking all the dumb questions.
6. This would be the start of my C-A-M for the second half of the year.
Someone needs to bring a tow rope in case my legs turn to mush.
Oh yeah, the wifey gave me permission to go out and play with you all.
I was definitely up for this...until I remembered that's the day my daughter is getting married. I think the family would be a bit pissed if I missed walking her down the aisle because I was out riding my bike....
Haven't rode with Ralph for too long. I'm in too.
Ralph, you mind bringing your scale? :D
Cool, I was hoping you'd go, it's been too long. I'm trying to convince some of my buddies that have recently joined up on the forum here to do this ride. I know they'll fit right in and get hooked on our rides. They lurk, but don't often post, on our rides we talk about the things that go on here all the time.
Absolutely, we can hang it from a tree in the parking lot and weigh everyone bikes (at least for those who want to know  ). So get out those light weight tubes and bar tape for the weigh-in!
[edit] You'll have to remind me the day before so I don't forget :o ...I'm getting old, ask Greg and Lenny.

"I do" hope you're not thinking about this ride while giving her away!

Sandbagging is allowed. It would be too much trouble to stop it. If someone wants to be a hammerhead and race out ahead of "le peloton nonchalant" they have to carry drink orders for the next coffee shop. "2 double caps, 1 soy mocha latte..., 1 double shot...."

There will be. With all the coffee shops marked. But really, it's just
Start at Los Primos
Go west until you come to the ocean
Turn left, ocean on the right
Turn around at Oceanside Pier, ocean on the left
Back to Los Primos the way you came.
If you are arrested by Marine guards in Camp Pendeleton you must be lost.
Start at Los Primos
Go west until you come to the ocean
Is the plan to head South down the SART from Los Primos to PCH, or go west on Adams?
