Fifty Plus (50+) - 49, 48, 46 ..... 40?, 35?, 30?, 25,? When does it stop?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Do we have ANY standards.

Now someone wants to call it the "nice people's" forum!!

I wonder how many folks are here under a fake age?

Easy solution: make me the judge of all things appropriate for this site.

46 y/o woman with loving husband three small children, look better now that she did when she was 20 years younger, and laughs at the cheap imitation of "Larry the Cable Guy" schict. Yeah, she stays.

42 y/o woman recently divorced for the secound time because neither husband could hang with her up the hills and the second one is frankly a *****. She states that she's here to whip u into bettershape we could have beat 'em possible. This one, the kharma isn't good enough to bond with the enlightened one who see sex as an end to a means. Other plans are beiing reinstated although with less fiduciary response capabilities forseen.

I have noticed alot of people that are often posters in other forums- occasionally made an appearance on the 50 + forum.
I do not know their age as they have never let on.

Now as to Dnvrfx's real age??? I know how old he says he is- But He could just be an overmature 35 year old for all I know.

The real test will come on the Ride your age rides- When they start claiming a Pie for only doing 40 miles- Then we chuck em out.

You see how much we've declined? First someone wants to ease off on the age requirement. Then somebody suggests calling this the "Nice People" forum. Now even Denver is becoming politically correct. How much lower can we go?

I'm for starting a 65+ forum with strict age requirements and absolutely no smiley faces - but not until October.

As far as I know, anyone can read posts and respond to any of the forums currently available. However, I think it common courtesy to respect the intent of the forum. I suspect that if I were a bent rider I'd get pretty miffed if someone came to that forum on a regular basis and wanted to talk about the joys of riding upright...or, if I were into touring, I'd probably get annoyed if too many folks were posting about road racing.... etc. There's a great deal of "playful" posting that takes place in this forum that I don't see on others with the same level of civility or respect, most of which has nothing to do with forums description: "Share the victories, challenges, successes and special concerns of bicyclists 50 and older."

Yet, at the same time I know that numerous studies confirm that people like to communicate, be around, and associate with others who are not too dissimilar from themselves, evidenced by the continuing growth in age restricted retirement communities. What's my point? I can't remember... another "senior moment".

Yes, I have REALLY mellowed these past couple of years. I used to jump all over folks who called themselves "old" or used that in their screen name, or words like "codger" or "geezer." I haven't done that for some time now. I once was proudly nominated for crankiest, most curmudgeonly member of the entire 50+ forum!

So...what is the intent of the 50+ forum, as has been stated, not to talk about our arthur-itis nor oesteoper-osis of the bones...it is to have a friendly discussion of BIKE topics (Most of the time,,,some of the time) with the ages that we are (or feel like) in mind. I am easy to get along with so I have no complaints.

I think that as our age-related "conditions" begin to impact the when, how and why of bicycling, then they are worthwhile topics.

Not me, I still Blush Bright Red as my first red bike back in 194x, 195x -gotta get back to you on the actual date. :D :D

Gotta admit, pretty girls still catch my eye. But my lovely wife keeps me 'straight'. When I got back from my birthday ride (did I remind everyone it was 67 miles for 60th) she gave me a big smile and said "Happy birthday". I said "Hey - I'm glad pretty girls still smile at me " meaning her of course. I caught her offguard and she replied "(I'm) Probably the only one that still will" then laughed. Gosh! I love that woman!

Speachless, I am totally speachless. This of course does not stop me from typing. ;)

First regarding standards, the only standards I have noticed has been the pie requirement. I am an honorary member (though faulting 2 years in geezerhood) for substantiating that chocolate is indeed a fruit. Such wisdom in the face of a serious problem was duly rewarded by advanced age - as though that is a reward.

Secondly, still trying to figure out how Chipcom is the girl that everyone wanted but still a grandfather... SOMEONE is seriously confused here...

Bring 'em ALL in. BF50+ is a great bar. . if a little rowdy betimes. In the words of a Dennis Franz character in a cop-opera long ago. . .as he put on his bi-focals, "This gettin' old ain't fer sissys.". We seem to face it here with wit, fortitude, and energy. That's a good lesson at any age.

I thouht there was a precedent set for Pastor Bob, who when i started signed his posts as "50-2" if I recall. So the defacto criterion is 'fifty-ish and willing to party nice."

Denver, you may try to draw a line, but there is a precedent that the line will be fuzzy. So we will always have to ask, "where will it end?"

I think we should formalize a status of Not Quite Fifty Plus Member in Training (NQFPMIT). Such members are not required to identify themselves as such. If never outed, they automatically are grandfathered (grandpersoned?) into offical Fifty-Plussers upon their 50th birthday, issued a Certificate and Wallet Membership ID card, and are openly entitled to all benefits priveledges upon buying everyone a round.

Ok?
