Fifty Plus (50+) - 09/25/04 - 3rd Anniversary - Pie Ride?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

09/25/04 is the date that the 50+ forum officially got started by a couple of us (mainly Joe and me) after some rather intense and heated polls and discussions by the members of a much smaller BFN. That was the date we moved several previous 50+ discussions from the general cycling forum into the newly created 50+ Forum. (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=67793&highlight=moved) (Some folks still hold a grudge of sorts).

So, should we plan a celebration of the 3rd anniversary of the 50+ Forum coming up in 3 months? This is fairly close in time to our annual Pie Ride on September 15th.

Participants eat blueberry (if available) pie (or seasonal pie) in a cafe' (or the closest thing they can find to a cafe') on the 3rd Saturday in September in the middle of a bicycle ride of at least 15 miles.

Any thoughts? Should we have a virtual "Big Bash?"

Other ideas?

How about a 24 hour sleepin. By the end of this year I will need it.

I was planning to do a century around that date and with luck should be the first major ride on the new bike. Providing we can get the 25th to a weekend date- The century will be on.

Or 3rd anniversary- 3 pieces of pie at 3 cafes- but a few more miles than 3 to work the carbs off.

I'd say keep the ride on the 15th and just call it the "anniversary" ride. The later you get into Sept. the more iffy the weather gets for those in northern climes.

Speaking of the pie ride, just today discovered a new cafe with superb homemade pies just a short detour off the local MUP (the Macomb Orchard Trail). It's called the "Crazy Loon Cafe" in Romeo/Washington Township. Had a piece of mixed berry pie good enough to lick the plate. So you SE Michiganders, there's a tip for you.
