Fifty Plus (50+) - Age Distribution of the Fifty Plus (50+) Forum

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I just took a look at the age distribution from the thread. There have been 220 votes and only 25% of the respondents are 60+:( This makes me feel ancient.
Do people give up biking this early in life? Of course they could also be like some of my friends who never used computers during their working career and are a little reluctant to get into them now:)
On Memorial day I saw an old friend on the road. He was one of the ride leaders in 1989 when I joined our road club. He's 76 now and was bemoaning the fact that he has slowed down to the point that a 79 year old ex-racer friend can now beat him. He was doing a 65-70 mile hilly ride in fine shape, and I enjoyed seeing him again.
There are several other older members of the club still out there, including at least one who is 83 or 84 now. I last rode with him when he was 81 and he was amazing.
Just keep at it, Beverly.

As I look at the pole results, it's occured to me that not many are over 60. I'm hoping that means that many folks of that age just don't use a computer, not that they've quit riding.

Has anyone noticed that phenomena whereby when one retires, one suddenly doesn't have enough time to get done the things one used to get done while working 40+ hours per week?
MM, that's why the drop-off in the poll. With the exception of our good lot of 60+'ers, those others are too busy scrambling to get things done to be online anymore! :p

As a good friend responded when (several years ago) I asked him what he did when he retired:
"I go to medical appointments."
