I am a little miffed at someone who would write in and ask how to gain weight when I've spent years trying to get rid of weight.
The flippant answer to your question would be to wait until you are over 40. The weight gain should be automatic...or it was in my case.
The big question would be why? Do you feel that it would help with your riding? Self esteem? Are there other issues?
5'8", 145# seems to be in the normal range. If I weighed 145# I could climb like a Colombian.
If you want you can take 10 or 15 of my extra pounds.
Please??:(

What I would give to have this problem... :)
I know they have weight gain mixes at health food stores. (GNC etc.) I used to use them when I was younger and it seemed to help. Wish I still needed them. :)
1. Increase breakfast calories 40% at a rate of 10% each week.
2. Eat lunch one hour later than normal (if possible) and increase calories 60% at rate of 15% a week.
3. Wait as close to bed time as possible before eating dinner. Increase calories 100% at rate of 25% a week.
4. Work on increasing your eating speed, you will find this lets you eat more.
5. Limit consumption of beverages immediately before and during meals, again tio increase food consumption.
6. Concentrate on high carb foods like pasta as much as possible.
7. Go to gym and do short sets with max weight. Reduce pedal rpm when biking (Higher gear at same mph).
That is the way football players add the right kind of body mass .
Or if you don't want to totally change your lifestyle and limit ongoing consequences (Turning off the cycle you have started). Just dring a high calorie supplement (Basically a vitamin loaded milkshake) twice a day like they sell for seniors with a appetite problem. For that matter two large Burger King Old Fashioned Ice Cream Milk Shakes a day would add around 2400 calories a day to your diet. Of course the majority of the weight gained this way will be body fat.
Have you had your body fat level checked? You may just need to gain muscle not fat.

Cookies work for me. While school break, was sitting in the house with depression and eating cookies and ice cream, almost non stop. From 135 - went to 185...
The school started and weight went back to normal.
When my classmate saw the picture of this period, who asked in disbelief, "Who the hack is this???" :D:D
Develop a habbit of overeating... it's as easy as any other bad habbit ... smoking, drinking etc...
The short answer would be to cut back on aerobics up the anaerobics and increase the calories to gain muscular weight. You are likely a fast metabolism type and combined with high aerobics makes it challenging to add muscle or even avoid losing it.
I suggest you add weight training heavy weights with plenty of rest between sets as far as the cycling cut back on the duration and up the intensity to make it a brief anaerobic workout (only a few times /wk.at most)and for the calories go with frequent (5 or 6 per day)small balanced meals as this is the best way to work on increasing your appetite. It is important as a hardgainer to never let your muscle glycogen stores get run down or depleted and the best way to avoid this is to include complex carbs (oatmeal/brown rice etc.)with each meal. You will also need high quality protein with each meal to build the muscle you desire. And to insure a moderate calorie surplus and to maximize production of anabolic hormones you will need to add in fats as well focusing on unsaturated types such as nuts ,seeds etc but also some saturated is alright here as well such as coconut, cream and the fats from protein sources such as meat and dairy.
And don't listen to people who downplay your desire to gain weight. It is every bit as challenging for a hardgainer to add muscle as it is for a easygainer to cut fat.You basically have to do everything right (ie lifestyle change )and then be patient as gains will come slowly measured over months and years not days or weeks.

Im on the very slim edge of "normal" body mass index, but I think BMI is biased by the number of overweight people. I can lose weight just by blinking.
I find that when I do lots of hard riding, with lots of eating, such as a 2 week bike tour, I put on weight.
I do have a problem eating large meals, there just isn't room for it to fit.
The "problem" with being this slim is finding clothes which fit me. In most high street stores, the trousers are tailored for people with more of (almost) everything. Shirts in my neck size are made for people with waists twice my size. Shoes are all made for fat feet, and I just get lost in them.
The advantages of a slim build really show when there is a mountain to be climbed.

Hi there, same problem here. I'm slightly underweight with a height of 176cm, 55kg. I need to gain some muscle, okay, not exactly muscles but I need more strength. However, there's still some fats lingering around here and there. Is it possible to eat more to gain weight and lose the fat? I hope to be as lean as possible, also in an attempt to prepare me for the cross-country(running) race next year. It would be good to be all engine, so any help out there?
Diet alone will not make you lean and muscular it takes proper exercise and rest as well.To add strength/muscle you have to anaerobically stress the muscles. My previous post detailed what is needed to add muscle/strength.You should focus on this in one phase and then do a seperate phase to cut any fat by upping the aerobics ,lowering the amount of weight lifted and creating a moderate calorie deficit as opposed to surplus.
TANKS TO EVERYBODY FOR THE SUGGESTIONS.

Drink beer, seriously, lots of beer.
Don't worry about the weight. When I was 18 I was 6'2" 135, and the Air Force put me on a weight gaining diet. At 48 and 280, that no longer seems to have been so good for me. I don't think there is anything wrong with being a little underweight.

Same prob here. I hit 100lbs at 12 years old, and I finally hit around 117 about 10 years later. THANK GOD!! I slowed down on my physical activity (overtrained like mad in college as a dance major) and upped my protein. I looooove me some protein :D
Once again, tanks to everybody for all the answers.
Let me qualify my response to oxologic because I recall now he is very young.Due to your age you will want to be careful doing heavy weight for low reps as it could shut off the growth plates at the end of the bones .As a teenager you are in a natural growth period with naturally elevated anabolic hormones and bone plates at the end of your bones open for growth. Thus the diet aspect is particularly important to you particularly getting all the nutrients needed to maximize growth.Exercise is still important it is just apparently stressing the bones too heavily with weights can turn off the bone elongation process limiting your eventual size.Apparently moderate weighs lifted are fine from what I understand but I suggest you do a web search on this subject if you are considering weight training.

I'm another one of those privileged few who want to gain weight. at 6'2.5" and 65Kg and 18ys. I'm almost dangerously under weight I think. Have tried a high carbo diet, nothing happened. I think it's partly genetic cause my mums brothers are all around my height with exactly the same figure. They are about 40years old now, and my mums dad was (passed away) 78 and he was just as skinny as me and a lot taller.
The only reason I want to put on weight is so I can cycle in the morning without 10 layer of clothes. Oh, and to be able to go swimming for more than 5 minutes without shivering, making tidal waves.
Only plus I can find at the moment is I'm one of the best hill climbers in my group.
