The Historian and I rode a hair over 50 miles today on the towpath, starting from Lower Ferry Road in Trenton. I've never ridden this far in one day before, neither has Neil. I am sore all over, particularly all over one particular place.
Had my first fall of the season! (Was trying to mount going up a hill and stumbled. It was more funny than anything else, but I got three tiny scrapes.)
Neil mentioned a funny post over at fatcyclist.com (http://www.fatcyclist.com/2007/06/07/the-difference-between-boys-and-girls/) that mentioned that men who take cycling pics tend to go for pics of them in action, and women tend to take posed shots. So here are some posed shots of us in action.

Cool deal. Fifty miles on a mountainbike is quite an achievement.

"The etymology of the name "Neil", as given on several websites, shows it to be of Gaelic origin. The Gaelic source word "niall" can be translated as "champion." And it's hard not to apply this word to both myself and Neil Fein to mark our riding in today's Neils on Wheels ride..."

As long as we're plugging, my entry is here (http://www.neilfein.com/2007/06/10538-miles.html).

And Fein is German for sturdy. Yep, that's me.

It is so cool. The internet + cycling brought two Neils together. Simply a few weeks ago you guys did not know each other existed and now you have manually traveled almost 100 miles together. Is this a cool age we are privileged to live? People from different cities, states, countries and continents coming together.

There are few things that I miss in the USA - but that trail is one of them. We used to love to zip down it with our tandem. Nice trail, lots of fun. Good eating along the way too.

And we harmonize pretty well on America's "Horse with no name" too. :-)

Not just the Internet, but specifically Bike Forums deserves the credit. Neil is the fourth person I've ridden with from here. The others are "freemti", "guybierhaus", and "half-bent." Perhaps one day I'll ride with you, Jumbo.

Good Job guys!
Like my trip this weekend, for the first time ever I took pictures while riding. I have many to thank here for that inspiration.

Looks like a fun place to ride. Is rochester by a train station I could get to from NJ?

Yes it is. The Train Station is in Downtown Rochester over near the bike shop I work at. I have ridden the train from Rochester to New York City many times and it's not a bad ride at all. Most of our City buses also have the Bike Carriers in the front, so you could put the bike on the front, ride down to the Lake area and ride there for the day and then either ride back on the bike or do it by bus.
We have many Rail Trails, Canal Trails and then the River Trail. The Canal Path Trail I think is 70 miles long.

I have done about 2/3rds of the Old Erie Canal Trail from Dewitt NY towards Oneida and that is another nice ride. I have seen folks do that and then Camp at Green Lakes State Park which is just across the trail at the Dewitt end.

50 miles? That's great. I have wanted to do that canal path for a long time. Maybe I could hook up with you guys some weekend. I am in Brooklyn.

Still in the US here, but I can't get to that trail easily anymore from Dallas. I used love riding that thing. Stopped everytime where Washington crossed the Delaware. Also, that ride rocks during Shad Fest, Stockton to Lambertville, miss it.

The tow path looks smoother than I'd have guessed. Any chance its ridable with 27mm tires on a road bike?

What kind of tread? We say someone on a triathalon bike, but most people had MTB, touring, or hybrid bikes.

Whence last I rode it (circa 1998), it was mostly fine cinder. You could easily ride it with 27mm road tires. BTW, you'd scorch it too. As I recall, that puppy was mighty flat and fairly protected from the wind, as it runs along the river basin. Did I mention I miss that ride!?!

And the guy on the tri bike may have been riding on the paved park path that crossed the trail.
