For a change, I'll make this a short one.

The 3s did 67 miles/4 laps today. A few breaks formed early but didn't stick. At the end of the third lap, there were two leaders and three chasers up the road. One of the Mock Orange guys and I rode away from the rest of the field on the climb a mile or so from the finish and brought the front groups together. In the next six miles or so, the seven of us put well over a minute on the main field.

At roughly the halfway point of the last lap (with about 8 miles to go), I went through a corner on the front of the train and when I looked back there was a gap. I went into TT mode and the gap kept getting bigger, so I went for it. Amazingly, the breakaway let me ride away from them. From talking to the other guys afterward, they thought that I was a) going to blow up, and b) creating a diversion so the other FSC in the break could launch a hard attack. By the time they realized that neither of those was the case, I was long gone. They tried to organize but couldn't get enough of a move together to bring it back. I ended up coming across the line somewhere around two minutes ahead of second place.

If I never win again, I'll remember that ride.

Props to snuff, recneps, and anybody else who raced at 1 PM today. It was already warm at 8:45 when we started, but we had cloud cover for most of the first two laps. Once the sun burned the clouds off, the last two laps were good and warm. I had three bottles and actually had enough to make it through and feel pretty good, but I feel for anybody who was racing later in the day.

Jeebus.

When do you start making training plans and selling your wares online? 5-2 in a season like it was easy...

Whoa there, I'm not a 2 yet. But I did just get more than half the points I need in two weeks, so it's a good start! Even if (trying not to tempt fate here)/when I do have enough, I'm not sure I want to cat up to 2 just yet, especially since FSC doesn't have anybody else above 3.

To answer your question, I'll give my plan away free to any and all BF.net readers:
1. Ride lots
2. Race anytime you can

I really don't do anything structured other than some group trainer interval workouts that one of the guys around here puts on during the winter. Everything else is either hard group rides (two or three a week depending on how many races there are that week), recovery (one night a week, sometimes another one if I feel like I need some more time on the bike without going too hard), or racing. I also mountain bike whenever I can fit it in- helps with bike handling and also acts as a decent interval workout if we ride hard.

If you're ever racing up in MABRA - I see your address is listed as arlington, va and ch, nc, hit me with a PM so I know whose wheel to follow:D

I heard from friends that you had won by two minutes today. Freaking amazing.

If there's any chance you ride with a power meter, let me know. I'd love to see the ride file.

Steve-

I don't ride with a powermeter (or for that matter a bike computer at all). Sorry to disappoint! If it weren't for the cost to get one, I'd love to have power data as well. In truth, though, I don't think I'd really take advantage of it given that I didn't even pay attention to bike computer stats when I did have computers on my bikes a few years ago. It just doesn't make sense to spend that much on something that I wouldn't utilize fully.

You certainly don't seem to need one!!
