Hey all, first post!
Mountain biker back in the day, had my bike stolen in college and couldn't afford to replace it.
Moved to the city, bought a commuter, and have been commuting on it when it's not raining.

So today I scored a nearly complete Cannondale R600, slightly older model. Only missing wheels and rear cassette, other than that it's complete. Paid a mere $50, figured I'd try out a road bike since I'm commuting daily on my Marin Larkspur. I'm trying to find a cheap wheelset locally so I can get it up and running, needs the rear der cable replaced (it's cut halfway through!) and I'm figuring I should just replace them all while I'm at it.

Other than that, a lot of cleaning up, a bit of corrosion removal, and I'll have my first road bike. Can't wait!

Anyone know what year this might be from? Purple and black color scheme.
R600 Racing, shimano 105's all around, alloy fork, everything moves fairly smoothly, but it's all getting baths, rubdowns, and greasing.

Any advice appreciated, I'll hit specific forums later when I have more specific questions.

The only advise I give is don't let anybody steal it, like you stole it. Fifty bucks is a very low price you did well.
Wait'll you get the attention of many of the dudes here at the forum. It may take a little time,just nose around and keep an eye-out. Postings have occured, when dozens of Cannondales pictures spontaneously appear at times. Cannondale has a fiercly loyal following here and on the road. Aluminum love it or hate it, Cannondales and the riders seem to very much kick-ass. I've often said that .

Great find, klocwerk. You can't go wrong for $50, even if you do have to come up with wheels. Although, personally I would re-do the bar tape :) .

and yeah, gotta redo the cables, so the bar wrap has no choice.

Those rubber boots over the brake levers are freakin filthy, are they an easily sourced part, or do they come with the levers?

The brake hoods can be scrubbed up with Simple Green. If they still aren't quite up to your personal standards, they can be fairly easily replaced.

Ask some more questions in the Classic & Vintage forum--someone will be able to tell you what you need. Dia-Compe replacement hoods are generally available on eBay or Amazon, amongst other places.
