Touring - Upgrading an Old Bike

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hey, I got a Centurion Pro Tour 15, and I want to know what you think about me upgrading the rear wheel. It's currently spaced something like 128-130 (it's made for 126 but I have to squish it in quite a bit to get the 126 hub I have in there), so upgrading to a modern 130mm wheel shouldn't be a problem with the spacing. My derailleurs are friction with the rear being Suntour LeTech and the front Suntour Mountech. Do you forsee any troubles with these derailleurs handling the new wheels? I know how to readjust the derailleurs to set the limits, but my main concerns are that the limits won't got far enough and that there might be chain rub. Oh, and the front is currently a triple. The rear is long cage.
And then if the wheel upgrade should be OK, what do you think I should get for a wheel, and where can I find one? I can't seem to find anything 130mm spaced with 40 spokes and a 10 speed (which is what I figure I should get if I'm upgrading). I'm only 140lbs and I'm going to tour light, so I suppose 36 spokes would be OK.
Oh yeah, if you think my Mavic Aksium wheels would be suitable (load would be about 20-25 liters), I could just steal those from my road bike.

36 spoke would be fine for light touring at your weight. I'm a Clyde and I heavy tour on a 40 spoker. How many cogs on the current freewheel? I'm assuming you currently have a freewheel rather than cassette. Equivalent number of cogs and maybe 1 or two more should be doable and if all else fails, there is always another dérailleur off of Ebay!
My current wheelset is 5 speed (freewheel) suzue sealed/cartridge hubs 40h laced 4x to araya rims rear and the same front but 3x 36h. I'm hoping 10 speed will work. Would something like a 105 hub laced to a mavic open pro rim 36h 3x work? That seems to accomodate 28mm tire max, which would be OK by me, but some day I may want 32mm tires or something I suppose.

the best thing would probably be to have a set built.. and if you can fit it then you can go with a bigger free wheel actually with a new hub it would probably be a cassette. then you would have to see if your derailer will handle it... but with a friction shift which i am assumeing you have... you set the high and the low range and go from there... so it may be able to handle the bigger cassette
Since you already have a good wheel, why not try a Megarange 7sp freewheel (http://sheldonbrown.com/harris/freewheels.html#7)? Only $20 - $25. Spin it on, adjust your dr and give it a whirl. A 13T-34T should be plenty for touring.
