for you fellow midwesterners, who's doing RAIN (http://www.bloomingtonbicycleclub.org/tours/rain/rain.html) this year? i rode it for the first time last year. the first 40 miles was great. i was caught up in a fast group and we tore up the road. only thing is i forgot to refuel along the way. actually, i didn't forget so much as i was still getting used to eating gels on the bike. after that fast 40, though, i was in serious calorie deficit and was never able to recover the rest of the day. the 90+ temps didn't help, either.

but that was last year and i'm thinking i'm older and wiser and i may attempt it again this year. you gotta love a ride that bills itself "one day. one way. 160 miles." :D

I'm going. My son wants to go too, so I might take him on our tandem. But I have some serious reservations about taking a 10-year old on a ride of this length. Our longest ride together on the tandem to date is a hilly 98-miles. We're going to ride to Indianapolis and back next week as a sort of "trial run".

There are some folks already chatting it up over in the Great Lakes sub-forum. Link to thread here (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=307947).
