Nothing spectacular, just one of my ordinary trail rides, 16 miles total 11 in dirt and mud 5 on the road for the shortcut return.

Then the fun began. On the mile and half down hill back toward my home I caught 4 roadies, pulled up to the last rider, said I was whipped and could I draft along for a mile or so. We were doing 34 and when he looked down and realized that I was on a Mountain Bike I thought his eyes were going to pop out.

Of course they departed like jet planes taking off on the next uphill but it was fun for a while. I'm glad they dropped me, I had to stop to check my bibs. :D

I think it was pouring in the rest of the state, but here in the southeast corner dry and sunny.

Thats the trouble with Mountain bikes- They get a few roadies worried when gravity takes over on the down bits. Uphill is a different matter though.

- did about the same today...

- saddled up around 0830... air temp 85F w/95% humidity... riding on a bike is *always* cooler than walking or jogging - nice leg-generated breeze...

- aired up the tires, slapped a water bottle in the cage, slathered a little SPF50 on the legs and cheeks (face cheeks, you perves!), then mounted up and left the 'hood...

- crossed over six lanes of no traffic (hey, it's Sunday a.m.!), then headed south to the 41-acre weekend flea market... took a walk-thru with my bike in hand (scumbag booth sellers never let you chain up near their tables, and the crack heads will steal you blind)... was looking for a coffee dealer, but didn't find him... tomatoes were three times the normal wednesday market prices - i guess gouging weekend folks is better business?

- left the market, then headed west towards the gulf of mexico... crossed a nearby bayou (where, if you lean over and spread some bread crumbs on the water, will raise a boiling, broiling mass of hundreds of catfish in a feeding frenzy)... kept going to a nearby park...

- did a couple 5-mile loops, saw some friends, including a canine friend, a 60-lb boxer named Dudley...

- left the park, passed a local (now empty for summer) high school, then back over a bridge to get home... trimmed a hedge and mowed the lawn when i got back...

- a good ride today!

In my case, few roadies and a guy on a MTB passed me but I wasn't out there to race with them on my Dahon D7, but to accomplish a great ride, 60.4 miles total for the day. Couple more 60 + ride like today and I will exceed my goal of 150 miles a week.

They were gone so fast on the next long uphill that I didn't even get to say goodby.
(Of course that may have as much to do with the engine as the MTB)

Did they pick it up and blaze into the distance because you were on a mountain bike, or because you had that MaddMaxx look on your face?

They didn't have to pick it up, it was a hill. I proceeded up the hill at typical maddmaxx pace.......:o

Downhill I'm a bowling ball.
Uphill I'm a.......................................bowling ball.
