View Full Version : Finally got out this weekend.
I was planning on going yesterday but life intervened. So I got up early this morning and drove half an hour to the MC Trail system here in IL. http://www.mcttrails.org/viewer.htm
I was planning on trying 20 miles - furthest I have gone this year is around 15 - but ended up doing 32. Only averaged 12.5 mph on a pretty flat asphalt bike trail but had loads of fun. Even saw some deer and other critters.
All in all, my body isn't complaining very much all things considered. lol

Great job! Take your camera on these rides, you'll be amazed how much it contributes to the rides having tangible moment memories for a motivator.
Thanks! And I always take the camera. It makes it even more enjoyable when I can combine 2 things I really like. I wasn't a mile into the ride before I saw my first deer.

It also helps for proof to the wife that I didn't just ride to the nearest pub. :D

Yeast is a single cell animal and a good source of protein. Beer is a good carb source and no I wasn't kidding. It's more beneficial to drink a nonalcohol version, because alcohol is a diuretic as well as a metabolic toxin, but according to UC Davis, it's also a good source of prebiotics and aids in digestion and assimilation of food.

There are good beers on the American market now, but the mainstream stuff had processed out many of the nutrients. The new microbrews and imports are very rich.

If you're eating yeast, yes. If you're drinking beer, you're not eating yeast, except if you're drinking an "ale on lees" style in which case you'll get a little. With the large majority of beers, the amount of protein is tiny, and mostly what you're getting is yeast byproduct (ethanol).
Beer is a good carb source and no I wasn't kidding.
I suppose it's all in your definition of "good carb source". As with the yeast, the grain that goes into making beer isn't really there in the end product: the yeast consumes the fermentable sugars in the grain, spits out ethanol, and the rest literally gets tossed out with the garbage. Trace amounts of this and that go along for the ride, but you're kidding yourself if you pretend that drinking a glass of beer is anything like eatiing a cake of brewer's yeast and a slice of whole-grain bread.

Stujoe,
Glad I wasn't the only one to see deer on my ride this weekend. I LOVE to get shots of wildlife when I'm riding. Seems like I can get much closer to them rather than when I am hiking.
Nice Pics too!

I get a lot of protein when I drink beer, because I am usually eating a sausage pizza, or a burger. jk

The deer didn't seem real concerned with me as I was riding up. I stopped to pull out the camera and figured they would all bolt but they just kept an eye on me and went about their business. I am very much liking the new bike trails I tried. Lots of wildlife. Rabbits, birds, deer, etc. No wolves or bears thankfully. ;)
