I just played around with google maps. I see there is a DQ in Plainfield...good a place as any to stop...might even just bypass the first stop and brunch there. I'll probably also bypass the lunch stop too and take lunch in Greenfield...there's like a Frosty Freeze and a store right there at the park. But of course this is all tentative...once the ride starts all plans usually go out the window!

Everything is loaded, took a short 3 miler just to make sure everything is in working order and I'm fixing to go horizontal once I finish watching this TDF stage...see you all when I see you. :)

Glad I'm not the only one freaking out. I have a lot of running around in the morning before we leave, but finished the bike today. Switch back to ProLink lube, so I did a complete drive train cleaning. Also decided I'll be sporting the OSU jersey:

with the Blue Brothers as backup. Count down begins...
P.S. Psimet2001, are those Circuits? Bike looks good.
Thank you and yes, indeed. I used them last year as a backup set (because I don't own them). They ride allright.

If you break out that jersey though I might have to put on this one....

We have friends with a son that rides for Purdue. I almost went for the "real" OSU jersey, but like the design on the World version a little better.

I'm taking my Circuits along for backup - just in case. Good wheels.

Go Bucks!

Now back to the Tour...

Given the 7 a.m. start.....what time would:
a) the first group expect to be arriving in Plainfield
and
b)any estimation of the duration of arrivals? (how long do they keep trailing in)

I'm looking forward to viewing it and am trying to gauge the attention span of my 3 year old as well.

Thanks and good luck to all!

my best guess would be that the first riders will hit plainfield a bit before 10:00AM, and you'll see riders for a couple of hours

have fun! i know we will be !

I agree, the fastest riders will average over 24 mph, and hit Plainield in less then 3 hours, while the slowest riders will average about half that, so may roll in about 5+ hrs.

*cough* flip it *cough*
:D - Actually it might happen some day. Been noticing that my stem might now be a little too long for the position that I am liking this season. A little lost weight and some more flexibility and flipped isn't looking too difficult to run with....;)

I have no picture other than my bike and kit from the other page (that now shows a red X weird). BUT my identifying mark will be my red and white STREAMERS on my handlebars. Can't miss them. Took them off for race season but will put them on for the ride. Oh wait maybe I do.

Seems like all of yoiu are pretty geared up for tomorrow. I've been tapering for RAIN for the past four weeks, so I should be in pretty good shape by now.

Jeni, Ouch what's the story...

I'm out, gotta to run to Dayton to drop off the kids, and then backtrack to Terre Haute.

Good Luck and Be Safe!

Here's my trusty wheelsucking machine after a quick 10-mile spin today:

I'll be wearing the 2007 RAIN jersey because I'm unoriginal like that.

Love it. I got the frame off eBay for $100. Hard to beat that. It's like any other aluminum frame out there, and I've had a few (Specialized, Raleigh, and Orbea).

Got back a few hours ago... took a nap.

Race report: Planned goal was 10 hours... really just to finish. Got to the the area where you unload your car at 6:25ish and got the bike ready. Got to the line and worked my way up so i was only a few hundred people back. Rolled out and i found myself in a large pack that was flying. we got to the century mark around 4:05-4:10 and kept on rolling. missed my sag for the 5th time around 110 miles so I just pulled off because i was going to die. that caused me to ride the last ~50 solo. thank god i brought my ipod. total time for me was 7:04. Darn, i thought i might have been able to break that 7 hour barrier, but those hills in richmond killed me.

I am burnt as heck. remind me to bring the sunscreen next year... oh well. total of 162 miles at an average of 23.2.

Hope to hear how everyone did. and/or see some pictures, hopefully my psv got some good ones..

Great ride today. Winds at our backs (gusts of up to 30mph) almost all day. Temps were sub 85 for the most part. It was perfect! Finished in under about 10:45 with an average of 17.7 mph (personal best for me) and I'm ready for bed!

I heard that a cyclist was hit by a deer and sent toppling end over end. Anybody else hear that?

Great Day, missed many of the BF'ers, but did meet a few. Had a great ride, more later.

P.S. I heard the deer story too, also saw a guy break something, maybe collarbone. Lots of dropped bottles at the beginning. Weather was perfect.

More ride reports! After you all have a good night's rest, of course. Great job, all!

It was awesome, and my first one. Good weather. The long, long stretches of lightly traveled and divided U.S. 40 on either side of Indy were a dream come true.

Finally made it back to Chi-town. I'll do a good write up later. approx 9:30 for CyLowe and myself. Something like 8:30 for aham.

Saw Chipcom at the start, but lost him right away.

This was my first RAIN, time was right at 12 hours. Not bad for me since I am not a strong rider.

My buddy and I decided to stop at 20-mile intervals. The only mechanical for the day was a rear flat on my buddy's bike at mile 23 right after our first stop. Consequently we were at the back and never caught any large pace lines.

Next year I will be in better shape and we will plan to start at the front and catch some pace lines and then drop back if we have to.

i hit the deer. if i went end over end... i dunno. i just saw a deer on the left and the next thing i knew i was sliding across the road. if anyone actually saw it (I was at the back of our paceline), i'd love to hear what actually happened. I was in the second group out of Terre Haute when it happened.
