Road Cycling - Shaving, how far up?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Getting into the road scene and need to know how far up to shave. If shaving is for road rash treatment then there's argument to shave right up to the waist area but doubt that everyone does.
What's the standard if there is one? Up to the Speedo line?
Thanks
From the hair on your toes to the top of your head.
Just kidding. I've never shaved. Naturally bald legs. I would guess, however, to the hips would be sufficient.
Shave from your toes up to your bellybutton and everyplace inbetween.
Leg shaving serves two primary functions.
1. Aids in the smooth manipulation of the muscles during the massage process by allowing the massager(yourself?) to move hands, cream, etc... over the skin more smoothly.
2. Decreases the likelyhood of infection in wounds, abrasions, road rash suffered in crashes, and eases the application and removal of dressings(bandages) on same.
So you need to ask youself, where do I need to shave to accomplish the above?
Why would anyone shave just their legs? You have to trim up around the snake and grapes as well. Do you think women love to find the amazon jungle when they go on an "expedition" to the nether region? Dental Floss huh. Shave everywhere dude. Shaving also makes Mr. wiggly look bigger to.

uggg.....do you really have to ask? lol
well, since you asked. everything except my legs gets to meet with a razor. ill spare you the details but i just find that leg hair agitates me the least when riding compared to armpit hair (also doesnt smell as bad) and the nether regions.

You people are on crack! I am a hairy beast, (see picture) and I ain't shaving for nothing! There is no reason to! The above listed reasons are dumb! (infection, lotion rubbing, etc . . ) Duh! Sorry, but I just don't get it.

Well, it is to make the cleaning of road rashes easier and prevent any infection right? Shaving has to be done almost everywhere, can leave the private area alone in my opinion. You have seen road rash on the elbows, the legs and even the butts, almost every part of the body actually. I think the private area is rather safe from harm's way.
Anyway, I do not shave my legs or anything. I only shave my facial hairs, I see no need for shaving as yet. I guess I'm afraid of people laughing at me, people over here just won't know the reason for me shaving. Maybe I'll shave when I get slightly older.

well my legs are quite hairy so I like to keep them shaved. I am wondering if shaving all the way up the back of the thigh has contributed to my current woes with folliculitis. I am definitely going to stop shaving in the back of the thigh to buttocks area.
A useful suggestion was to shave to the knick line and then if needed clipper the rest.
I'm not sure if this is the best combination but I'll try it out and see how I go.
After all the crashes in the TdF I had to resurrect this thread.
Does this mean I have to shave my hairy butt?

If you decide some day to stop shaving wont it come in very very thick? Do you use little pink razors or a mach 3 turbo so the process feels more masculine?

That is a misnomer. An old wives tale. Shaved hair does not come back in thicker. I used to shave my upper arms and legs for weight training (well, so I didn't look like an ape at the gym) and the hair came back exactly the way it was before.

Last winter when I stopped shaving the hair that grew back seemed finer and softer. :D

I use Mach3. Has nothing to do with masculinity. It is for comfort, smooth shave, and no cuts or nicks.
Whenever I use the cheap disposable brands I have cuts everywhere and rashes develop in the "delicate" areas.

This is an intresting post, i must admin that I'm also thinking of shaving, partly because i want to start racing soon (if i can find any near DC) and partly because i know what road rash feels like. I layed my brand new allez down at about 30mph after a hard corner and a small rock that had my name on it. It too my a week + to heal enough to get back on and I now have lovely scars. shaving should reduce the friction between you and the road, so it should lessen the rash. I might try it out....

Sorry to hear about your crash. Shaving will show off your scars.
When a good looking woman askes about them, well you got a
great conversation piece.

Doesn't work. I used the Veet stuff last weekend and at $7 a pop a set of Mach3s are better.
Also shaving is good for giving ticks less to grab on to.
