Yesterday when I was riding my new Marin around PIR (Portland International Raceway) I came across the oddest thing. A FREAKING HUGE SCREW IN MY TIRE!!!
It happend just at the end of a asphalt road right before i was going to go off into the gravel and i hear this PHsssssss, i look back and i had flatted. much to my suprise it was a huge screw pertruding in the tire and out the sidewall. This was a 2 day old tire/bike  so that ruined my day:crash:

But i think i saved the tire buy patching it up with a patch kit and some super glue :d we will see how it holds up :p

That sucks. The tire should still be useable if you used a TIRE patch and not an inner-tube patch. You said you used super glue. I hope you meant rubber cement.

lol, its a TUBE patch and SUPERGLUE :p its all i have right now and i want to ride tonight (its really hot at the moment) but it seams to be holding so far, i super glued the holes shut and then instaled a tube patch on the inside. i didnt use much super glue, just enough to keep the hole closed because the super glue dries hard and its not flexible. but i plan i getting a new tire (or tires) soon anyway.

Keep that up and you'll get a studded tyre for winter

That's not so uncommon. I've ridden over nails and driven them into my tyre a few times. On one occasion, I didn't even get a flat out of it. I just pulled the nail out and kept going! Don't ask me how that worked (and don't ask me to try it again).

Yep, that is how flats happen.

imagine a screw that size in a 23mm road tire. That happened to me. I heard a clanking and it was the screw slapping the stays! The tire didn't flat until I pulled the screw out.

I had the same thing happen with a big nail on my first ever road ride. The bike was a brand new Trek 7500FX hibred, I bet it didn't have 10 miles on it!
Tore the sidewall on the tire!

:D :D :D

I had a blow out (is that what you call when your tire just pops?) yesterday.. I mean the the inner tube just "burst"..

This was on the rear.. I inspected the tube.. I found out that the rim was only wrapped with masking tape.. No rim tape! (I can't believe the LBS is capable of making this mistake).

Anyway, the tube had 36 small nipples where it penetrated through the masking tape when it was inflated to 110psi... It took a week and about 150kms of beating before it gave way..

For me, this was an outstanding performance(tube), don't you agree?

The tube was beyond repair, I had to replace it with a new one.. But I made sure that this time, Rim tape is installed..

The odd thing is, the same happend to my front tire a moments after the rear wheel was fixed... Same cause, no rim tape..

This is certainly not a tolerable mistake.. I spoke with the owner(LBS who built the wheel) about this.. And this was purely a mistake.. His mistake actually, he built the wheel, installed the tires and tube.. And, he may have forgotten to place a rim tape, he said. It was a new bike by the way...

But it cost me 2 new tubes... And my whole afternoon ride. I spent almost all of my ride time at the lbs.

What a Day!

Dexmax, sounds like it should not cost you anything, on the contrary, you should get money back that you already paid and get free repair with appologies!
At least he admitted the mistake, some are even so stubborn that will find some lame excuses...

thanks inoplanetyanin..

The LBS owner is a friend of mine, so its OK. I get almost free repair everytime..

Actually I pay, but they won't take my money..

I guess its one way of saying my thanks to them..
