I am having this issue with my garmin. Yesterday I am on a ride, and I look down to check my normal data, and my garmin is off. I think thats weird, thinking maybe my battery had died, but I had charged it that night, and when I turned it on, it had plenty of juice left. I kinda just forgot about it and kept riding. Well today, it did the exact same thing. In addition, when I load it up to Motion Based, the stats are off by a bit. Yesterday it was off by about 15 miles, today 3. And I know for a fact the distances of these rides because in the past my garmin would read much higher, and the same route taken early this year before I had this thing, my cats eye agreed. I am running the most up to date software. Any one with a few words of wisdom.

Any possibility there was a change from miles/kilometers or kilometers/miles?

nope. And when I upload it to motion base it says one thing but when I just upload it to my computer with the training center software, the miles match, the amount of climbing is diffrent, the top speed is diffrent. I know that motion base does corrections for GPS errors (like going through a tunnel at 1400mph) Someone in the road form just had a similar problem with the stats being diffrent, but the turning off for no reason is ********.

There are some reports (anecdotal to me) that certain cell phones can cause this. Just a thought.

Check out the forums at motionbased.com - they may have some ideas.

This happened to me a few months ago. I called Garmin support, and they RMA'ed the unit for free. It took a few weeks, but they sent me a new one. I got the impression that this problem is not something that Garmin support regularly deals with. The guy at Garmin seemed to think that there was a short circuit in the unit somewhere, possibly caused by vibration.

Possibly something amiss with the sender unit on the chainstay for when the Garmin is under dense tree cover or otherwise has difficulty with satellite coverage? Obviously a wild guess.

Sometimes the battery contacts can get loose. It was a problem with the old B&W Legends especially and still happens with my Legend Cx from time to time on rough roads, don't know about the Edge series. When battery contacts get loose, the batteries will lose contact with them while hitting a bump and the unit will then shut off.
The fix is usually just stretch out the contacts a little bit making the batteries fit more snug. Also using cheap rechargeable batteries like 1500mah will do this because they are slightly smaller in size.
Try that and see....
