Recreational & Family - Burley, why did you change the D'lite?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Don't get me wrong--I love the Burley trailers and think they are still the greatest, but why did they change the design of the D'Lite trailer for '07? I know they had to reorganize in order to cut costs and make a profit, but the '07 D'Lite is a move in the wrong direction--1. No perimeter frame means less side protection from impacts, and less protection for the wheels. 2. Side Battens are attached only at one end--Previous D'lites side battens were fixed at both ends of the side frames, making for an overall stronger frame. 3. Frame folds front to back instead of side to side--much more stress on the side windows when folded, and the folded dimensions are larger than older D'Lites. The newer D'Lites are also a pound heavier. The only advantage the '07s have is 3" more interior height. I lucked out & found a new '06 D'Lite at a closeout price--in my opinion a better trailer!

Are the new trailers still made in Oregon?

Yes, trailers apparently are sewn in Portland, and assembled & shipped out of Eugene.

It's a D'Lite, not a Solo?

That description fits a 2 yr. old Solo that I have.

The new '07 D'Lites now fold the same way as your Solo.
