General Cycling Discussion - JohnE, DnvrFox and Nora Fox meet, break bread together

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

John E, Denver and Nora Fox met for a great fish dinner at Veracruz in Carlsbad, CA, north of San Diego.

Nora and Denver had a great time, and hope that John had the same.

We festooned on fish shish ka bobs and salmon. Families, religion, music, work - and, oh yes, potential biking routes were discussed.

A picture was taken of all three of us by a friendly native, and it will be posted upon my return to Denver.

It is great to meet BF members around the country.

Made for a wonderful evening. JohnE is a neat guy, as always comes across in his very thoughtful and kind posts.

Go to the Colorado mountains, not Denver which is flat and in te plains.

Summit County, Breckenridge, Vail, Coppoer Mountain. Cool enought at 10,000 feet.

My parents in Estes Park, Colorado had snow. That's about, what, 60 miles northwest of Denver?

I've seen cyclists spinning slowly up the fire trail that goes through Rocky Mtn. Nat'l Park to the Continental Divide.

Very hilly place...

Thanks for posting, Denver!

For the benefit of those of you who have not met them, Denver and Nora are first-class folks. Over dinner, we discovered that we had many things in common, in addition to bicycling.

As some of you know, this is my second personal encounter with a BF member -- I cycled up the Torrey Pines grade with the Rainman last month. I am consistently impressed with the quality of the folks who inhabit this little corner of cyberspace.

To change the subject, I got the Capo back from CyclArt last Wednesday. Since I have promised my wife a digital camera as a 30th anniversary present, I'll soon be able to post a picture of it. If anyone wants to see a 1960 Capo with its original decals and paint, here is a soon-to-expire eBay link:

Are you referring to Trail Ridge Road? I have never heard of a fire trail???

Anyway, Trail Ridge Road (12,000 feet +) was closed last week due to 12 inches of snow.

Cool enough for you? :D

TOO cool for me! I will be on my own in mid-July and I want to go someplace I have never been, but I wanna be comfortable...and get away from the Texas heat!

Denver,

Thanks for posting your meeting with JohnE. It sounded like a good time.

I think that I was in your neck of the woods on Sunday afternoon. I took the C470 bike trail east and got on the E470 trail. Just at the time I reached the trail that went south to Parker it started to rain. I found a sheltered park bench and thought that I would wait out the rain. Then the rain turned into hail, the size of grapes. The hail lasted about 20 minutes and the small shelter that I stood under was not much help. The cars on E470 came to a complete stop because you couldn't see anything and the horses in a nearby field were running frantically around trying to find shelter of their own. It hailed so much that when it was finally over it looked like winter. I hope that you didn't get caught in this hailstorm.

That sheltered park bench is about 1 mile from my home. If you looked just a little southwest, you would see a new subdivision, which is where I live.

We still need to get together some time.

If you go south on the CC Trail about 1/2 mile (through the horse pasture) there is a spur of the trail to the right, which goes directly to the sub.

If Ms. Vicki is not used to riding in mountains, this ride would be too strenuous for her.

Let's find something to do the week you are off, Ms. Vicki. I am off the whole month of July and can travel wherever. If you are adament about not visiting northern Illinois now that your friend backed out of a meet, let's go someplace cooler where we can ride and watch le Tour!

It would be good for me to get away from Princeton anyway. Otherwise, I would start missing my children at the center and be up there all the time!

Hey, MsVicki, what about the beach? You like to swim, I like to swim. We could keep cool in the ocean! A friend of mine has a time share on a cabin on Crystal Beach in southern Texas (is it by Galveston?). He said it is a great cabin, in a great spot, and there are lots of available men there on vacation at this time of year! He says we could have it for a few days during the week in question. E-mail me if you want to go!

I am going to question him about cycling there. He may know something, although he doesn't ride much. I should talk to him tonight.

Excellent.

I've only met one BF member - Toolfreak (Mark) but hope to meet up with others in the future.

Great community spirit here, I think - even if we don't always agree on things.

Thank you very much for documenting our meeting, Denver. I am sorry my wife, Pat E., could not join us that evening; she would greatly enjoy meeting you and Nora.
