This is a serious qustion that I'll try and keep PG. When I ride my "package" is getting jerked around and I have to keep adjusting myself to get comfortable. What do you guys do to support yourself, especially if your on the larger side. Is there a seat made for this?

are you wearing the stretchies (lycra, etc)? Getting started is always an issue, but once I get it tucked to a side, it stays there.

Compression shorts do an even better job.

I just wear looser clothing, tight closers contrain things too much and cause them to get pushed/pulled .

I wear bibs and it seems to solve the problem for me...I do get "hit" by the seat sometimes when going over really rough spots but you quickly learn to get your butt of the seat more.....

No, I'm just wearing boxer briefs and joggers or the nylon style joggers.

That's why I wear the padded Spandex shorts (Bibs), among other reasons, none of which have anything to do with style!;)

What are the boxer briefs made out of? If they're cotten you may find that they're stretching out enroute. I found some synthetic boxer-briefs at Wallyworld with a sculpted pouch that holds them in the right amount. Stay pretty dry too.

There Cotton and they do stretch when you wear them and sweat. I'll have to look into those.

I might have to try those, but I'd have to wear joggers over them. :D

Geesh....it's a wonder you haven't castrated yourself! There is no way I'd ride with my boys splayed out all over my Brooks leather saddle. You need to "regroup" and wear either spandex shorts or the "mountain" type shorts that have spandex underneath.....get everyone in line and snug and you'll be home free :)

I just tried and like the SMP's; it seems to keep the package from traveling too far. :D

Don't worry, there's a non-carbon version!

I find just wearing street clothes is the bigger problem Stuff droops lower than I like and gets caught in some kind of bind, like between my leg and the saddle. . Over the miles, it hurts.

+1 for padding, go for commando-style.

Just do the triathlon route and swim in cold water first. ;)

Can you guys post a link for a good place to buy 3x padded shorts.

Actually she was quite handsome in her younger days.

As for the package it can be a problem. The bibs with the padding help. I have to adjust every so often as everthing goes left even with the padding. I am still trying things out to see what works best.

Path,
That particular picture does not help her out any at all. If I make it to her age I won't care what I look like.

I read that headline and thought "man I hope the poor fellow didn't get it caught in the spokes". It was a "big package" problem afterall.

You could go for the tighty whities, they generally keep my boys in line fairly well.

A good pair of bibs usually does the trick for most rides. If I'm running errands around town and doing a lot of in/out of the saddle moving through traffic, then I go with a jockstrap under light-padded bike shorts, and a pair of cargo shorts over top. Keeps yer dangly bits out of harm's way so you don't crunch something important when doing a lot of "red-light out of saddle sprint then sit down to spin" transitions.

Tighty whities don't work too well, the "boy's" end up hanging out.

I'm checking out the shorts and bibs, do they run smaller?

Aerotech has both good sizing info and they actually respond to email questions! Spandex, when you first look at it, you'll think "I'll never wedge my butt into that" but it stretches!:D

I'm all about the bibs, too. I liked regular bike shorts with a drawstring before I got really fat. Now, no matter what, they roll down. Bibs are da bomb!

May I suggest Pearl Izumi Ultra sensor. I call em Zorski's and mine are ....... well, I had bad issues at first, riding without my Izumi's is like riding without a seat.

I'm very proud of the female members of this forum. Had the original poster complained about her breasts being a problem while riding I'd wager that the request for pictures to "truly ascertain the problem" would have been made within the first three responses.

Yea, big package problem and I thought how could that ever be a problem .

On rides shorter that 20 miles I ride with just boxer breifs and Champion shorts . I seem to only get the numbness when I use bike shorts or bibs, but I can deal with that on longer rides to save the tush.

I think you should also consider the seat in the equation. I used to think that a really cushy gel seat would be great, until I sat on one for a long ride and my little guys started to get numb. Turns out that my weight pushes all the gel the wrong way and puts pressure in very bad places. I went the other way and got a Selle Italia Flite Gel, which has a tiny amount of padding, and other than getting your tailbones used to it, it is amazing. Really, if you fit the bike properly, it won't hurt much, and only the first time out.

Big Package? Have you thought about the Arkel T-54's or the Arkel Utility Bag? Both of those seem to handle very big packages.

Padded, tight-fitting bike shorts. They are that way for a reason. Once you get everything 'situated', you should not have any problems with things moving around. The mountain bike shorts are a good option if modesty won't let you rock the lycra alone. Good MTB shorts have the lycra undershort layer to keep everything together.

Jim

edited to add: No underwear with the bike shorts! Defeats the purpose, as they are meant to be worn next to the skin.

The MTB shorts are a great idea, I just looked them up and they are baggy and look like normal shorts, while having the protection. I'm also going to stop in the bike shop and try some other seats.

Thanks for all the advice guy's and I'm glad a few people got to have some fun with it. As a guy, I want to ride comfortablly and protect myself. Besides, my wife said she needs everything in good working order for many more years to come. :D
