Hey everyone, I decided to start up a new thread from the "south jersey/philadelphia dudes and dudettes" thread so people can see that we have started up a Fixed Gear/SS Team for the MS 150 "City to Shore" Ride this September.
I am hoping to get a lot of people interested and print up Tshirts for the event. Right now the existing team is named "Team Schmeam" and last years shirt design was printed on powder blue Tuxedo Shirts. I am hoping to do something interesting again this year. I will post more info on this thread later, but for now, if you are interested in joining up with the team, PM me your email address and I will send out an email with ALL of the details.
This is a great ride for a great cause... its also VERY flat and perfect for fixed gear riders.

YES! So I'll pick up the housing thread over here. I plan on reserving a room for yours truly. I'll call about the Georgian first, since Nocoins said it was nice. If anyone (that I like) wants in, we'll work out the details. I think it's a good idea to pair off with one or two people you want to room with (or violate while they sleep) and work it out that way. But let's try to get rooms in places that are near each other, last time I did it my hotel was suuuuper far south of everyone else. I almost missed the shuttle bus to the Sunday morning start.
PS Very excited for this. Fast pacelines through Jerz!
PPS Poop scissors
yeah, i need to figure out how many are coming up from dc before i think about booking, but make sure you tell me where you guys are staying so we can egg your rooms.

looks like you guys will have to be our enemy this year. Last year we had to fight against "Team Penn Design" since one of our team members (my now ex girlfriend) broke away from Team Schmeam to start TPD. Of course, we murdered all of Team Penn Design and we will have to do the same to "Team DC Pirates". I am saving up all my D Batteries to throw at you guys, Luke, you get some doorknobs in a sack, and Max, you bring your hair clippers. We are taking DC Pirates OUT* this year.

oh *****! a fight against Team Penn Design[interrobang (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interrobang)]. that was the said "lame grad school team" I avoided signing up for! I f-ing hate school.
woooot I'm all for murdering them. guess they're not the enemy this year tho. I'll settle for DC.

"Well, I don't know. Can you swing a sack of doorknobs?"
"Can I?!?"
"Alright. Here's your sack, but you've gotta supply the knobs."

oh no, you are a Planning Major at Penn... we probably know some of the same people... WORLDS COLLIDING!!! ;lakjdf;lkjasd;lfkjas;dlfkja;lskdjf;laksjdf;lkajsdf
Anyway, screw those bastards! they are going down. We referred to them as "Team Evil" last year and laughed really loud whenever one of their team members was on the side of the road with a flat tire. bahahahaha
Hopefully you will join Team Schmeam this year... then we will have a mole on the inside of the Penn Design School. suckers!
What will your weapon be against DC Pirates? You may need a box of protractors!

maybe we do know some of the same people, but really I dunno anyone there very well cus I avoid them like mad outside of class. 5 years of ivy league pretentiousness makes one a jaded cynic with a strong distaste for fellow students.
I think I have to join Team Schmeam now so as to act as mole and aid in the TPD demise.
my weapon against DC? dunno about those protractors...but...hmm...my comprehensive knowledge of growth management? some jacked landscape architecture models from last semester's studio? paper airplanes made out of DVRPC letterhead? I'm at a loss...
isn't being a female enough in itself? there be so few around here. I'll blind them with my astonishing good looks as I ride by in a miniskirt.
alternatively I'll strap a ski pole to my bag for dire situations, or throw golf pencils at them.

As an innocent bystander, I would like to request no Lee Greenwood this year, please. At the end of the ride last year, I was tired, I was sweaty, I smelled bad, AND I had to hear that damn song. It was unpleasant on so many counts.

How do you get back? I've been thinking of doing this, whats the break down of rest stops and how long did it take last year?
If you're doing the whole 150, you ride back on Sunday. Otherwise there's a bus or something. As far as getting back from the starting point somewhere in Cherry Hill, good question. I think a bunch of the Schmeam dudes rode out there from Philly last year -- what route did you guys take?
There are rest stops every 15 miles or so, I'd say, though they're a little more frequent towards the end. I think it took me like 6 hours to do the first day last year, though I also think we stopped at all of the rest stops, which I want to avoid this year. As someone else said above, it's really really flat, so it's not going to kick your ass or something. The worst part for me was being bored out of my skull from looking at pine barrens for hours on end.
Oh so 150 is philly to shore and back the next day?

Oh so 150 is philly to shore and back the next day?
Yeah, it's not actually that far to the shore. If you look at the course (http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=369136) (that's last year's), it zig-zags a bunch to add miles. Also, it's actually 78 miles for some reason. Weirdos.
Edit: If you're so inclined, there's also a 25-mile loop you can add on the first day & make it a century.

It actually STARTS in jersey, not in philly. We tend to take the PATCO train into Westmont station where the starting line is... I think it was westmont... anyway, its one of those boring places. Last year we all rode back from Jersey to Philly... we went through Camden. After 150 miles, it was refreshing to be able to ride with just a small group and not thousands of other riders.

I dont know anyone there very well. They were friends of my ex... but all very nice people. I have friends over at the DVRPC, they dont take kindly to people abusing their letterhead, BEWARE!!
I imagine you have many many outdated overpriced textbooks... that may be your best bet in defeating TPD. Team Schmeam will need to get a "practice ride" in before the actual event. I will set up dummies in a parking lot with TPD jerseys (complete with monocles and top hats) and we will practice our "swarm and destroy" techniques. Being a therapist I believe my weapon will be deep analysis and exposing their faults and fears. At some point I will suggest that "no one loves them and it is entirely possible that they will die alone". Their tears will create a slick surface on the road causing them to fall to the ground. After they go down, out come the golf pencils, ski poles, sack of doorknobs, feather dusters, books, dirty looks and miniskirts. I think this team will do well this year. I also think that our Tshirt is going to need to be scotchgaurded to prevent the blood stains from settling in.

I got an email on the TPD listserve today that they officially have 20 members!!! Schmeam only has...not that many signed up. hurry up! must take down the enemy! (not that I'm signed up yet, but yeah...)
ps who doth thou know at DVRPC? I am currently stationed at one of their "intern benches" (tiny long desk kind of in the hallway with 4 interns using 4 outdated computers and CRT monitors).
