So there must be some fellow BF 'Sopranos' fans in the audiance...
What did ya'll think of David Chase's "conclusion"?
Personally, I hated the ending at first, but am beginning to see that in a way, it was the only way TO end it. Had Tony been killed outright, or flipped to the Feds it would have seemed too 'clean' of an ending.
This way, all that's left is a lingering tension.
I have watched it for years and my reaction was, eh!
I read about it in the paper this morning (never seen the show). Seemed like a bit of a cop-out, to me. At least be honest that there's no real ending, that the characters' lives will go on after the show ends.
As soon as I figured out that my DVR had not crapped out on me, my second though was "Oh, they are leaving it open so they can make movies now." "Cleaver" and the script Tony gave AJ, they even wrote Tony making movies into the story line.

That's it???!!! You've got to be kidding???!!!
I know you can't possibly base an entire season, let alone many years of a successful show on one single episode, but...
That's it???!!! You've got to be kidding???!!!

I don't even have cable, but it sounds like an hour of "snow" would have been more interesting than this finale.

tony dies.
Nobody gets it, David Chase whacked the show. How else was it supposed to end?

I just watched, after avoiding all discussion of it today. I had a feeling it would end like this and while I don't know how else it could have ended without being cliche, I feel a little let down. Cutting to black is the new "it was all a dream."
The cat, though, was a trip. I've always thought Paulie was a two-faced rat at heart and I loved how distrustful he was of the cat. Tony even mentions the possibility of a rat in the walls.
Great show. Sorry to see it go.

I heard it was neck and neck race between this and the NBA finals to see which audience would tune out first.

Did you tape it, velomedieval?
The only way to appreciate the moment is to replay it after you've recovered from the abrupt emptiness.
There's really no other way to say it... David Chase whacked us.
He gave us the hitchCocky scenery, the not-so-subliminal soundtrack, and the tick-tock of the clock that we ALL knew was running out on the hour.
We took one in the back of the head... We never saw (or heard) it coming.

I've heard elsewhere that Phill Leotardo's nephew and the two guys hired to whack Tony a couple seasons ago are in the little restaurant at the end. Also, there's a bell on the door that rings whenever someone walks in... except Meadow. Yeah, I think you're right-- we got whacked-- but it seems so art-housey for the Sopranos (and I love art-housey!) and a really disjointed way to end. I need to go back and watch it again.
Although, I have to say that Mr. Velour Tracksuit's trip to make a phone call was well played. I've never been so happy to see a character go!
