Not a bike computer, but I ride with a Garmin 60CSx handheld GPS unit. A little overkill... I initially bought it for other uses, but when I realized that they had a bike mount for it I thought "What the heck."

I have the garmin 301 already, but it has huge problems picking up satalites

Garmin 305 with Heart Rate Monitor. Just an excellent piece of equipment. Have no issues with the satellites being picked up at all. I had to have HR, but I am also a data junkie and wanted the numbers. I had to have a way to upload the numbers so I could pick them apart and on occasion, load a ride so people could see my path.

I like the look of the 305 and many say that the sat pickup is better. It may be a reward for when I drop below 250 pounds. I think I am looking for a wireless comp that is simple for now. I too am a data geek, but at this point in time I don't have much data to add.

Garmin Edge 305 here, and also an ultra-cheap CatEye Micro Wireless as a backup for when I forget to charge the Garmin.

When I first started, I just had a Trek Incite 8i and it was a good basic computer, but I wanted to get a HR monitor. I looked at various things, but I ended up getting a Polar CS200cad. This is a fantastic little computer, hated to get rid of it, but it would not allow me to upload the data how I wanted to see it like the Garmin can. I was going to try and write some computer code, but decided I did not want to try and hack their stinking sound transmitter. It was just easier getting the Garmin 305. The Polar is a great unit, but if you have a big chest, the strap max's out at a 58-60 chest size. When I first got mine, my wife cut the strap and sewed on an extension so it would be more comfortable and would not pull so much. I could get it on, but it was really tight. The Garmin strap is huge, probably fit a 65" chest.

Cateye Strada. Does everything I need it to do and with one button.

Currently a Filzer db2L, about $10 at Mountain Equipment Co-op, has the basic features, speed, odo, trip odo, ride time. Nice feature, it's easy to read, without needing my "better" glasses. I use it mostly to log distance and time.....

Tried several cheaper computers with wireless CAD and SPD but kept having problems in my area with interuption and really wanted HR as well. Went with the Edge 305 with CAD and HR and will never look back. I'm a bit like JAX I like picking apart my rides, and wanted something easy to use with several bikes. If the 305 is in your budget do some Googling, I got mine all said and done with HR and CAD for $300 shipped overnight. That's the cheapest I found by far.

I currently have a Specialized Turbo. The only functions on it I ever really use is the speedometer, trip odometer, and general odometer. I'd like to get one that also included cadence and possibly heart rate, but since I have a working computer my money is going elsewhere for now.

Mine is a Schwinn too and I think I paid $9.99.

It has everything I need. Trip miles, Total miles. Current speed, Average speed, Top speed. Trip time and a clock so I don't have to take my watch. It is a wired one.

I do. The Garmin cadence and wheel sensor is mounted near the rear wheel so it can pick up the wheel magnet and the pedal magnet. The cateye sensor is mounted on the front fork.

I use a Topeak Comp 130, and I love it. It has all the standards, also has pace. Sometimes I wish I had a cadence and HR monitor, but I do alright w/o it...

I put it on trip miles and hold down the left button for a few seconds and it resets everything but total miles, top speed and the clock. I can reset top speed by displaying it and holding the left button down for a few seconds.

Two cateye astrales. One older, one newer. The only thing that's gone wrong is with the wiring harness. The newer one had the retaining tab for the computer snap off after a ride in very cold weather, when I tried to remove the computer with heavy glove on my hands. The second one I've had for I think about six years, and had to replace the wiring harness because I bumped and cracked the magnetic pickup when I was removing a wheel to remove the cassette for cleaning.

New harness: 10-20 bucks.

I like the cadence, and the absolute reliability of the computer. Long battery life, and cheap to buy and replace.

Nashbar "Wireless Computer" on the commuter. Has what I need, distance and speed :D. All the other stuff is cool, but distracting ;).

On the MTB I use my Magellan Explorist 600 GPS. It does.. far too much, but helps to keep me not-lost. I really would like an EDGE 305 sometime, though.

Filzer DB4L, about CAD 14 from MEC
Used it since I restarte biking, in spring 2006.
I have nothing to complain about, does it's job well.
I'll get a second one for my 'bent.

Cateye micro wireless here. The basics are all I am interested in. Odo, trip odo, avg. and top speed are interesting to check on. My average speed is rising this year. Big surprise.

I use the Garmin edge 205, i didn't think it was worth spending the extra money on the heart rate model, since i already have a hr monitor.

Filzer db4LW-C. Wireless sensor on front fork for speed/distance, and a wired sensor on the left chainstay for cadence. The only problem I have experienced is that I tend to kick the magnet on the crank out of position when pedaling.

It really has more functionality than I need - just use the speed, cadence, and odo for the most part.

I think I paid about $25.00.

You might want to go wired. A lot of people have issues with wireless. Not saying wireless is bad. But there are people that have issues with signal interference. As well most computers have an auto-shutoff (wireless included). I've been hearing people that have issues with their wireless not shutting off from picking up random signals. The Sigma BC1606L can be had for $31.49 right now at Nashbar.

I currently use this one. That one in the link comes with a second bike mount which might come in nice to have for a backup or to mount a fresh kit on the drop handlebars that you want to get at some point. They also sell the above cyclocomputer at Dick's Sporting Goods. Only difference is that it only comes with one mount but you get a cadence sensor. Cadence is nice because it gives you a visual of how fast you are pedaling so you can concentrate on keeping an average.

If you are worried about wired vs. wireless I'll take pictures of my bike setup later and post them so you can see what a wired looks like on the bike.

I have actually looked at this one quite abit. The only reason I was thinking wireless was ease of installation. I have heard many people issue the complaints you have made.

I have the Trek Incite? on my 520. It came on the bike. I put a Bell on the Giant OCR and I like it better cause it gives average speed. The Trek dont. My watch has a HRM but I seldom dig out the chest strap that it uses.

I use a Shimano Flight Deck. (6501, I heard the 6500 were pieces of shizzle)

I know it's a little old school but they can be had for around $50 on ebay and the additional wiring kits can be had for $20 on ebay for your other bikes. Installation can be a little maddening because they give you a total of four instructions (4!), one of which is installation of the wheel magnet which is the most basic thing there is.

Overall, it works really well with the Shimano shifters (Ultegra/Deore) that I have on my two bikes.

I like the cadence and the gear indicator features the most. Oh, and the speedometer too.

Blackburn 'Delphi' 3.0 (wired, with wired cadence)

Got tired of wireless crapping out on me, and I wanted something different than (yawn) cat-eye.

This computer is the bomb IMO. :D

I've got a Blackburn Delphi 3.0 on one bike and a Vetta RT277 on the other, both wired speed/cadence. The Vetta has a much more versatile display than the Blackburn--speed is displayed in the center window and top and bottom windows can display any parameter you select. The Blackburn has a dedicated speed window and a dedicated time window. It has a tiny window at the top that can either display nothing or current cadence, but it's too small to be of any use to me. The bottom window switches between all the other functions. The Blackburn cadence magnet fell off early on, replaced it with a neodymium magnet I got at my local surplus electronics store, heat-shrinked it to the crank arm. Haven't had the Vetta very long but so far I prefer it. I've also had problems with the Blackburn riding in fog--the mount takes up moisture which shorts out the contacts and produces wacky readings (no response from Blackburn "customer service" to 3 emails). No fog since I got the Vetta, so the jury's still out on that score.

I've got a Blackburn myself that I hated so much I went back to my cheap Schwinn Computer! The Blackburn never did work right nor did the three replacements they sent me!

Then mine is not the 8...7 maybe, thats why I put it Incite? It has clock, time of ride, speed, trip and total odometer. I miss the avg speed as it is easy to just scroll down to it. Now I have to do math if i want to know. took me a few minutes to figure out the formula if under an hours ride. 60/54 = 1.1 multiplied by distance of 11.5 = 12.8 mph. the other day I rode 15.4 miles in an hour and 27 min but this included up and down the mountian. I had to devide 27 by 60 to get .45 than add 1 to get 1.45 then devide 15.4 by 1.45 to get 10.6 mph. too much work.

Picked up a Bell "speedometer" a couple weeks ago for $11.
It does what I expected, for the price.
On, speed, odometer, trip odometer.
I find On the most useful function:)

+1 I have one and I love cadence. It is great for those early morning starts and I try to keep my candence up. It is too easy for me to throw my weight into it and mash the pedals without feedback.

I must preface this with the fact that I am a total geek, data junkie with an addictive personality….

I use a PowerTap SL – Cadence, Speed, HR and Power. I use them all and can’t live without them.
I ASLO have a Garmin 305 so that I can save my routes for winter on a computrainer….
