From the comments, it appears that the cyclist lost his life (the article just reports 'major injuries'). That is so tragic and a reminder of the risk we all take out there. Horrible. :( :( :(

wow... that is such a bummer... I rode that road today actually; we came back through fallbrook and a big white expedition totally cut JanB off .... it just happens so fast. So sad for the cyclist and his family :(

It really is ridiculous that some drivers have such contempt for cyclists. Big deal so they have to slow down for a few seconds to wait to pass is it really worth someone's life?

Hi,

I'm pretty familiar with that intersection from the San Luis Rey Road Race. During this year's race some moron in a car went speeding through the start/finish area with his horn blaring and with him yelling some kind of obscenities. On our first lap we saw him pulled over by the police near that intersection. Very ironic and very sad and I am so sorry to hear that the cyclist died.

Since I moved from Ventura county to Southwest Riverside county, i have experienced more hostility from drivers than ever before. You'd think in a county such as San Diego (regularly touted as one of the best cities for cycling) that everyone would appreciate the opportunity for healthy lifestyles.

I regularly get yelled at by losers in 4-wheel drive trucks, moms in suburbans, etc.

The comments in the newspaper that accompanied the article made me sick! I never really consider the danger of my hobby, so I suppose I'll have to be sure to always give my wife and kids a kiss before going out for a ride.

So sad. I may become a "Grumpypig", too!
