Electronics, Lighting, & Gadgets - Does it all suck?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I've been using a Garmin 305 for a month now, and I've come to the conclusion that all software that hooks into/works with this thing all sucks. I try to load my last ride into Training Center, and it barfs a lung. Load it into MotionBased, and my cadence data disappears, and it has all the responsiveness of a lobotomy patient on valium. My circa 1972 World Book encyclopedia has maps that are more complete than those in TC. Of course, there is also the utter incomprehensibility of the user manual. It tells me I have a virtual partner--that is great and wonderful. Of course, to figure out how to program the virtual partner, you have to use the virtual manual, that exists in the virtual world where Garmin 305 companion software doesn't suck.

I use SportTracks from Zonefivesoftware (no connection other than I think it's wonderful). No built-in maps, but pulls in a variety of views from Google Earth-type satellite view to Streets, and stores them in cache for offline use.
Oh, it's freeware.
As to virtual partner, I certainly didn't have a problem setting it up... where do you get stuck? This is one of my favourite Garmin features.
