Since there are some Salt Lake City locals on the board, I thought I'd share this. Earlier this year there was a shooting at Trolley Square Mall. A Bosnian young man went through the mall shooting people left and right. I don't recall how many killed, but it was pretty indiscriminate. Women, young people, etc.

One of the victims was a co-worker of mine. Stacey Hanson. When the shooter got to the store Stacey was, everybody was ducking for cover and hiding. But being about 6'2", there's not much place he could hide, so he ended up face to face with the killer. He tried asking the guy to stop and that these were innocent people with families. For that gesture, he got shot multiple times with a shotgun point blank. First shot to the groin and the rest to the back.

Amazingly enough he survived. Partially paralyzed. You can imagine the shock here at the office. However, the out pouring of love was equally amazing. Everybody donated vacation hours to him, there was a fund, and there was an office and community project to re-model his house to be wheel chair friendly.

Yesterday was his first day back to work. Other than the chair, he's the same guy. Not too bad for a smart ass full of buck shot.

Too bad somebody in the crowd didnt have a gun to make the perpetrator feel the same way.

They did. Well, they didn't exactly make him feel the same way as JR97's co-worker. They killed him.

Glad to hear Mr. Hanson's up and around, JR97.

Tradgedy often brings out the goodness in people. Glad to hear Stacey's back to work. Took a lot of guts to try and talk the shooter out of killing people. My hat's off to you Stacey Hanson. You are one of the good guys.

Actually, there was an off duty officer who heard the shooting and was able to get the shooter's attention and exchanged gun fire with him. Doing so probably saved a few lives. The cop pinned him down and distracted the guy long enough for the S.W.A.T. team to take the guy out.
