Commuting - Anyone tell me anything about Western New Jersey?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Howdy,

I may have a chance to move to a new position with my company from Indiana to Hopewell, New Jersey. Can anyone give me tips on areas to look for for reasonable family homes (limited budget)? Areas to avoid? How about road cycling? Good places to ride in this area or Eastern PA? How about MTB? Any good trails within an hour or so of this area?

Whatever info you have would be great. If you would rather contact me directly, send messages to ky_collect@yahoo.com

Thanks for any advice...

My sistor lives in Hope about 12 miles east of the Deleware water gap off I 80. When I visited her recently I saw several road cyclests. The roads are narrow, but better than here (Va.).

Taxes are the highest in the country (It said so on an ad on the radio - I don't know) The densisted populated state and very liberal. I have been to Bloomington and Crane Ind many times and like it. I don't like N.J.

I like New Jersey. Sure it's expensive but it's not that bad. I don't live anywhere near you since I'm located in the north east part. Sorry.

Legalice,
I know the area well. As far as reasonable housing there is nothing in that part of the state that is what you're used to seeing. New Jersey is expensive. Houses are from $200K - $700K. Apartments with 2 bedrooms are $800 - 1200/mo. Check with the realtors but you should plan on a long commute to work if you want to pay less than the prices I've stated. Most companies expect to pay their employees more here due to the cost of living premium.

Now the good news. Central to North West Jersey is bicycle heaven. Eastern PA is good also. Light traffic county roads, the Delaware Canal towpath (about 50 miles of hardpack from Bull's Island south to Trenton west to Princeton), State parks with excellent MTB trails, great bike shops and several excellent bike clubs in the area.

Let me know if you want to get a "ride guide" for the area. They go for about $10 (softcover) and are about 100+ pages with maps and written directions.
