Mountain - Plains - Bikeshops in the US

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi
I am going to spend my hollyday - 6 weeks - mith my family in USA and would like to visit some bikeshops. Can you help me? I´m not only looking for the big or cheap ones but also those with atmosphere.
We´re going to New York City, Denver, Moab (one day on MTB on the slickrock - only day on bike for six weeks:eek Los Angeles and San Francisco plus off course a lot of other places, but these will be those where I will have the time to spend looking at bikes. I´m mostly a roadie but do mountainbike.
Thank you
Zach, Denmark

I'll suggest two for Denver.
Wheat Ridge Cyclery (http://ridewrc.com/page.cfm?PageID=44) Ron Kiefel, the owner, rode for 7-11 in the TDF and the Giro. He was also the first American to win a Giro Stage. It's a huge shop known for very detailed personalized service and an extremely high degree of expertise. Those two characteristics, large size and personalized service, are not often found together.
Vecchios (http://www.vecchios.com/) This is very small and highly race oriented shop in the cycling mecca of Boulder, CO. It's not uncommon to see cat 1 riders out on the road. Vecchios is fashioned around their mechanics stations and is the center piece of their shop. All the people working their are mechanics and they will often be wrenching while helping customers on the floor.
Have fun with that.

It's not a bike shop, but you have to go to Boulder (Colorado) and go to Amantes Coffee (http://www.amantecoffee.com/) on North Broadway. It is a 'bicycling themed' coffee shop. Many of Boulder's famous group rides meet there and there are always cyclists hanging around. During the grand tours they have TVs showing the day's racing.
It is also right next to a good bike shop, Boulder CycleSport.
