Did anyone notice that Vino is on form? Oh and Astana seems to have set itself up for defending not one but two podium positions? There are advantages and disadvantages to this. What thinks you people?

The Dauphiné is always so tough to gauge rider's performance...those focused on the TDF undoubtedly holding their cards close to their chest...but 30 seconds over Z...unreal.

I don't think Astana is going to bother trying to 'defend' two podium finishes...Vino will sacrifice himeslef to help his teammate.

I think the only remaining acheivement the Kazakh would focus on the rest of this race is blowing apart the field on the Ventoux...but not if it's at a sacrifice of helping Kashechkin get closer to the #1 spot.

Vino is the man to beat at the tour. He's gonna dish out a world of hurt on the rest of the peloton.

I'm rooting for him...I love his 'always attacking' style of racing. It should make for an exciting tour, especially after Lance's predictable (but still awesome) style of knocking out the TTs, then staying with the climbers. Go Vino!!!

He knocked out some climbers too. Lance was actually one of the best climbers as well. Remember only one guy beat him up Alpe D'Huez, Pantani. And remember "the look"? He didn't just drop ullrich, he dropped everyone.

no, mayo beat him too. but then you could argue that a number of times he was "gifting" a mountain stage to a rider so they would have a consolation prize while he rode for time.

i hope vino doesn't go too hard and saves something for the tour. its happened too many times where a GC contender blows their load at the dauphine. i know its not in vino's style to hold back though.

Vino will hold back, I know it, he's too smart to blow his best shot at the Tour. He will blow the legs off the peloton, this is his year.

Vino is still pissed....you can really see it in his riding style....lol I think it is great....hopefully he can keep himself calm and relaxed....his nature has always been to ATTACK..

You may find quite a different Vino strategy this Tour...he's in the driver's seat on Astana (well, maybe co-driver with Kloden) and has a very decent shot at a podium finish; figure that into the situation and I doubt Vino is going to follow a "always attack" attitude.

I'm just happy that he's back in the Tour, barring any stupidity.

Vino won't win the Tour if he maintains his aggressive style of riding.

I agree, fun to watch (attack / get dropped) but he's not going to walk away with TDF. He might win but not by much.

Anybody notice this shot of Hincapie and Leipheimer warming up. Interesting contrast in their positions:

Just for warmup. He wore his normal disco kit for the race.

I like the difference in head tube sizes. Looks like "Honey, I Shrunk the Leipheimer." He should get a special pass to ride 650c wheels.
