Hi,

Do many of you folks take part in charity rides? Based on my experiences I would thoroughly reccomend doing so.

I had a great time yesterday on the "Oxford Big Bike Ride". This was a very well organised event in aid of the Anthony Nolan trust, a charity supporting research into childhood Leukaemia. There were 3 distances to choose from (25, 50 &75 miles) which drew in a wide range of riding abilityand since everyone was in it together the "feel good factor" was high. There were also some swish road bikes and some very good riders out there, so there was a slight competitive element, which was fun. Plus there was a chance to share bike experiences with others.

I completed in 5 hours, average speed 17.0mph (distance slightly in excess of the 75 miles stated due to a slight detour...). Total distance covered yesterday: 85 miles, which is a new personal record.

The best thing... I raised £130 in sponsorship (thanks very much to friends & family) and had a great time earning it!

Cheers,

Ed

Great job!! I am doing my first charity ride in October - The Ride for the Roses down in Austin. I, too, think it's a great idea...I'm gonna get to do one of the things I love most AND help some pretty terrific people out in the process.

I did my first charity ride a few years ago for a Children's clinic. I had a great time. I did the 30 mile route. This year I'm gearing up for a 3 day ride in the mountains of Colorado. It will be tough because the ride takes you over 3 mountain passes. I'm not strong on hills. But I want and need to do this ride for personal reasons. The ride benefits Denver's Children's Hospital where my daughter is being treated for Leukemia. So I'm excited to be giving a little back :)

I'm involved with Team In Training which is a part of the Leukemia and lymphoma society. I just finished the summer 03 program which we rode a century to raise funds. Also I ride for MS on the MS-150 with Team Bonnie for the Metro Atlanta MS-150. www.teambonnie.com

I really enjoy riding, and love to help worthy causes at the same time.

In a couple of months I set off for a charity ride of 4200 km in 32 days across Australia.

So far I've raised about $4250 for literacy development in India.

That sounds excellent, MediaCreations, sounds like a very good cause. The ride sounds quite good as well.
