Some buddies and I just rode in the Wildflower Rush X-Country race this past Saturday in Crested Butte, CO...This was my first x-country race. man, that was one brutal course! 2, 9-mile laps for us Sport guys with 1500 feet of climbing and some SERIOUS rocky descents.
I didn't place as high as I thought I would (or expected), but definitely learned some great things in the process. I learned, most of all, what my weakness is. Descending!
I tackled all the climbs pretty ferociously (i love climbing), but every person I passed on the climb caught me on the downhills - totally negating each and every attack i made.
The descents were very fast, very narrow, very slick and extrememly ROCKY. My fingers are killing me today from all the "jackhammer" vibration they got trying to hold on to the bars and throttle the brakes. Oh well...i did have a great time and got some great experience under my belt. I'm sure I'll drag my butt up there again next year :)
