Well- I leave tomorrow morning for the mile-high city-- I am going to do Ride the Rockies and am heading out a few days early to acclimate... this living at sea level (sort of) and going to COlorado to ride requires a little bit of that. The ride starts Sunday--and it's 7 days of riding. I am taking the fixie...

After reading a couple of the posts on coasting, it made me think that going downhill fast on paved roads is one of the true thrills of cycling. Unfortunately, I will have to limit my speeds to about 35 mph because that is the maximum speed my legs can handle on the fixie-- one gear, no coasting... I will miss the 'screaming downhills', as the ride director calls them :)

I will post on how it went-- If I have access to a computer, maybe I will post during the week--but otherwise it will be upon my return.

train safe-

Heh. You can always unclip and hold your feet clear! :p What gear are you riding? I'm very curious due to the climbing and descents involved.

Wow. I am amazed at everyone's big rides here: long rides, hilly rides, mile-high rides, mountain assaults. I'm just a flatlander wuss. :(

Have a great trip, buelito, and please do give us a ride report with pics. :D Ride safely!

Good luck.

I have seen just about everything Ride the Rockies, from a fully mounted bar-on-a-bike to two guys from Sweden who rode it on "commuting foot-powered scooters." Some guys traditionally ride it in tux's.

You will have a lot of fun.

Be careful of Colorado's infamous "rumble strips" located on the right edge of many highways, and dangerous to bicicylists. They have supposedly been made safer, but just the same . . . .
