Anyone have one? I work a rotating 12 hour shift. 2 on 2 off, 3 on, 2 off, 2 on, 3 off. The catch is, I work that schedule on 1st for 2 weeks, then after the 3 day weekend, I go to 3rd for 2 weeks....just keeps goin round and round.

If so, how do you cope with work and family time?

I know a few people who work seemingly random schedules. Their eight-hour day could take place anytime from six in the morning to midnight, it's different every day, and any given day of the week could be a work day or a day off (as in, no set workdays and weekends). This makes me angry, as it seems cruel and unfair (this isn't even remotely an entry-level position), but sadly, they don't seem to mind.

I don't know how they can stand it. It'd drive me crazy, and I'd have a real hard time getting anything done outside of work.

I work 12 hour shifts, rotating days off every week. My brother works the same kind of schedule, only he rotates to days or nights every few weeks. Manufacturing is like that..

To get me to work that kind of schedule they'd have to pay me enough that the boyfriend could be available whenever I needed him. ;)

You're talking about me, huh. X?You at least have the same schedule for a few days or a week at a time, don't you? I know people who don't even have that luxury.

2 of my bros have some weird shifts but nothing really as weird as any of that rotating shift crap.
probably the most annoying shift one has is he might close or work till 11 and comes in at 6 or 7 in the morning the next day. What kind of r-tard does scheduling like that.

Thats kind of the way it is with me right now.. minus the umm boyfriend part.
I've postponed a position with USAA and turned down several other job offers because honestly the pay was not neough to convince me to leave my home office. :p It's nice to jump outside and catcn an hour and half long ride while somebody is going to call somebody else to find out whether they have authorization to go ahead and do something we've spent 2 weeks talking about :p

My current and my last job were about the complete opposite. Come in between 7 and 9 (10 at old job) and just get your 8 hours in, well, 7 now cause this place gives you an hour lunch. Plus I can stay longer and get accumulated time off!

But the job I had before these was way different. Only got paid based on how much of the product we delivered regardless on how much time I was actually out in the truck. Some days were 4 hours, some were 14, and the longer the time didn't always mean more pay...

I do 24\72's. 24 on, 72 off, and it stays like that.

I work from 10-5/6 at the Physics labs then on Tuesday nights I work from 5-10:30 at the Bowling alley. Sometimes, I have to work Friday nights from 6-12midnight or one of the Saturday shifts (12-6 or 6-12). Sounds like fun, right?

My wife used to work at a bowling alley, she enjoyed working league nights, great tips, even working the desk.

I used to work league night too during the semester. I loved it. I might have to ask for Tuesday (league night) off and actually play.

The saving grace for my crazy schedule is that often my days off are when my wife is at work and my son is at school. It's the only time I truly get a day off.

Different every week. Different days off. I can't even plan an activity because it changes every week.

My shifts are generally 2:30 to 10:30, but occasionally they throw in a 5:15am-1:45pm shift just to spice it up a bit. It's especially nice if they didn'y look at the last week's schedule, and put you in for a close followed by the open. Next time I'm going to remind them that by law there has to be at least 8 hours between shifts.
My dad works a 4 on, 3 off schedule. A friend of mine works 8 on, four off. Lots of funky stuff going on in the oilfield when it comes to scheduling.

Man I changed around my schedule to make room for a summer class that meets on fridays.. and now I'm working Sunday, Monday, Tues overnights - and I have school Monday Tues and Weds from morning to afternoon/evening time. So from Sun, Mon, and tues I don't see my bed.. why I did this? I dunno, I'm too tired to remember right now.
