Commuting - Company installed a bike rack for me!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I rode into work this morning and as I round the corner into the lunch area what do I see but our maintenance guys installing a new bike rack just where I used to lock my bike to the sunshade pole! Since I am the only bicycle commuter at my location I figure it must be just for me right? They had just been discussing about how futile it was to install this today since noone would ride in on a day when the temperature was supposed to be 115! Anyway, I figured since I have been locking my bike up for a year now they probably thought I was serious' about this and wanted to make my bike parking spot official! Now all I need is for them to install a shower! The rack is cool because it gets my bike more under the shade instead of out in that rubber/plastic eating UV exposure. Anyway, it's gonna be a good day!

Congratulations. That is a very nice job benefit addition. Your commuting has made a real difference. Thanks.

Congrats!
Maybe if you start hosing yourself down in the back next to the bike, they'll install the shower too! A little skin goes a loooooooong way! :D
Seriously, that's your next move for sure- asking for the shower, and seeing if you can drum up support for that. I bet in the next year, you'll have showers put in, and then you'll be in nirvana! :D
Congrats again!

"Oh... it's you, Bob." Remember that old car commercial where some guy named Bob gets all the special treatment?
Well done Paul. A case of a cyclist being in the eye. There is some truth to the saying that the more cyclists out "there" the more recognition there is.
Now that's a great cycling success story!! Great stuff Paul! :)
Wow, what a great story. I commuted for twelve years and locked my bicycle up to the "Reserved for Handicapped" sign the whole time.
Be sure to write a thank you card to those responsible for getting the bike rack.
Thats cool. I was fortunate enough to have the same thing happen for me. I work for UPS and they installed one a few days after my request. I am the only commuter:( . The rack holds 10 bikes so I have the best spot everyday?
