im in the sodo/georgetown area. anyone familiar with the georgetown area? its by boeing field. the new hip hot spot to hang out. ha.
im riding all over the damn place. from one end of the sound to the other. in the past year ive fallen in love with the long distance ride. at the beginning of this year i joined the seattle international randonneurs but i feel behind in the schedule for a few weeks so i missed the beginning of the brevet season but i just conquered my first permanent and longest mileage to date. 129 miles in 12 hours. kind of slow i know but like i said, i was a little behind heh. my current, primary long term goal is to ride the PBP in 2011. hot dam.

I used to work at the old Terminal Annex, for the USPS (currently the Seattle School District warehouse, I believe), so I know where you are!

I think you can probably manage the PBP by 2011 although that's only four years away...;) .

I used to cut through there, everyday on the way home, because the traffic would stop on 5, heading north, RIGHT at the Corson exit!
I'd wind down through Georgetown, past Michigan, onto that little road that went over the railroad tracks and under the West Seattle (high) Bridge, and end up on whatever that road's called that becomes Alaska Way when you get out near downtown (where they used to hide the hydroplanes).
Is "Ben's" still out there?
It was on the right if you were heading towards, say, 4th.S.
In fact, it was just before and on the same side of the road as the Jack-in-the-Box...so right past the grey concrete Washington State Lottery / Japanese Food store ("Maurita", I think its called) building.
It had a big high white fence facing the street.
That was one of the best junk yards EVER!

Have you done the "Chilly Hilly" yet?

bens isnt there anymore. it was abandoned when i first moved into georgetown a little over 3 years ago. it was abandoned for about 2 years then they bulldozed it and the DOT has extended their old yard into that space. they moved the hat and boots to. practicaly next door to my old house. now i live by the park next to the off ramp.

havnt ddone the chilly hilly. next year i will definitely.

anyone got some STP tickets they dont need?

Thanks for the update.
That's kinda sad about Ben's.
A lot of guys who owned small outfits that used commercial vehicles tended to lean on Ben to find usable replacement parts at a decent price.
I think I remember hearing about the Hat & Boot moving.
That was a few years ago, IIRC.
Back in the 60's, when my Dad worked down that way, he bought gas at the Hat & Boot all the time.

...and I suppose in this case, "STP" dosen't mean "Stone Temple Pilots".

I'm new to the area (only a few months) and will be in the Renton/Newcastle area when the family moves here. I love to ride daily, but this is the highest auto traffic area I've ever lived in. It is a bit intimidating. Central California and Missouri were better places to find fewer cars.

Wildwood, if you are in Renton, you should check out the Cedar River Trail. You've also got Interurban/Green RiverTrails not very far from you too.
