Man, was it hot! The Mt. Diablo park thermometer at Junction read 102 - in the shade. My cyclometer was showing as high as 113 in the sun. What a day for D-peats. I was hoping to climb it 4 times today, to get a feel for climbing something close to the altitude gain we'll do in the Death Ride - I was lucky to get 3 in. On the 2nd climb, I got so overheated that I stopped being hungry (something that never happens) - instead I felt nauseous for the rest of the day. My avg. spd. for the day was barely 9 mph - including the descents and about 10 miles of flat riding to get to the park. Just a hot, nasty day.

By the 3rd climb, I was climbing from water spigot to water spigot (there's at least 4 or 5 places to get water on the way up), and basically soaking myself down each time.

Nicely done. If the deathride is as hot then as it was today, I'd say you are close to being ready.

I'll be on the beast Thursday afternoon doing Summit repeats. Hopefully the Devil will turn it's air conditioner on.
