Mountain Biking - Looking for a BMX bike on steroids

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My younger brother (15 yo) has grown out of his ~4 year old Schwinn Powermatic BMX bike. He likes the look of the specialized P.1, but as he so eloquently put it, "Everyone and their mother has a specialized." He likes to set the trend of the neighborhood so he want something more exotic, maybe Canadian. He wants it to be a singlespeed, have front and rear discs (mech would do fine), and look cool. Any suggestions in the $400-$600 range?

.243 baby. The king of BMX mtbs on steroids. Several choices made for the shore by the shore.
Either that or a snipes elemental (this thing is a beast with 7mm tubing with lifetime warranty) Those two bike will rock your brother. For more exotic and tough bikes check out

I believe he has both of those frames. IF your bro is rich tell him to check out 24 Bikes Le Toy III. Either way there is a lot out there. :)
NOTE: These frames are a little expensive for him so it probably won't work for him. The P series is unbeatable price wise. Maybe look at the norco 125 http://www.norco.com/bikes/2003bikes/one25.htm for a complete value bike. Otherwise the above frames kickass :D

Evil Imperial! Awesome bike, killer configuration and can handle anything you throw at it. Also available at Unreal at the link above!

Does he want the whole bike to cost just 600?

Yep thats why I suggested the norco. But if this guy really does want the durability and ride of a bmx on steroids throwing in an extra few hundred for a built up .243 should be cool...
I was thinking about building up a Snipes with a big ass fork and some tough ass wheels for urban beating. I could theoretically build it for pretty damn cheap too, if I made it a singlespeed.

"Everyone and their mother has a specialized."
He's right!
However, I've only heard good things about the P-Series both in reviews and on this board. I'd think it would be worth a look, even though he certainly wouldn't be setting any trends with it.

Yep a buddy has one it is awesome!!!
Damn, that evil frame is 720 bucks! It's a sweet frame, but damn.. that's mighty steep for a hardtail.

Yeah...but there are quite a few ht's in that price range. All of them bomb proof. :)
I'm sure it's quality and unbreakable.. but damn. I could buy a dual suspension frame for a bit more.

I know...but then again there are BMX frames that are in the 400-500$ range. Just a matter of what you want. Personally unless I came into some money I wouldn't get one...I am not that abusive or good to justify a bike like that.
