That guy is incredible. I like how the "judges" had almost nothing to say afterwards. He came out and without saying it, told everyone to STFU.

The crowd is aplausing wayy to early
Even steve is like hmmmm I'm going to have to dig really hard to find something to say here.

Yeah, I liked the looks on the judges faces when the dude said he was going to sing some opera. It was a great way to set the table for eating crow later.

I'm still stunned by the clip. When you think of people pushing the envelope of the human experience, you think astronauts, people breaking olympic records, etc. Yet here some cell phone guy gets you to literally feel and experience within yourself his emotion and passion for his craft . I've been a musician and worked in the recording biz for a long time and I've only been moved like that a few times. Truely a gift.

I like how the female judge orgasms several times.

Okay maybe not, perhaps just a trickle.

She could use another facelift, methinks.

I should stop typing now...

soooooo cute :)
but not a tear jerker like the first guy, she's cute you adore her to begin with, he brings out the pity as soon as he comes out, you want to hold him to protect him from people laughing at him, for him to come out on top and have everyone clapping for him had me in tears..

His name is Paul Potts.
It's a bit misleading - as it seems he's just some guy off the street with remarkable talent, when he really he has performed & trained before:

http://www.bathopera.co.uk/Past%20Productions/Don%20Carlos/don_carlos_biographies.htm

Paul Potts (Don Carlos) is a relative new comer to Grand Opera after an apprenticeship in Gilbert and Sullivan in Bristol.. His claim to fame is his 1999 appearance on Michael Barrymore's My Kind of Music. This was followed by singing for Bath Opera in Turandot as Prince of Persia and Herald. He has since performed with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and spent three months touring Northern Italy as a soloist, training under top teachers Mario Melani and Svetlana Sidrova. He has been invited back for a concert to be recorded and also for a masterclass with Luciano Pavarotti. Future plans include a summer tour with the RPO.

He still absolutely kicks a$% though. :) (http://www.bikeforums.net/)

Wow... that sounds better than Pavaratti's rendition (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VATmgtmR5o4).

I thought so, too. Pavaratti's seems well crafted by experience and technique. Paul's seems like nothing but emotion, passion, and the purest of god given talent. Maybe un-polished compared to the great tenors, but I think that's why it's so stirring. He's laying his heart and soul out there on judgement day in a situation where the worst performing nightmares are re-played over and over again in the name of "good" television. I seriously doubt that Pavaratti ever has to worry about getting judged and laughed at.

Until he's a paid professional, he is some dude off the street. I don't think it was ever intended to think the guy was just a shower singer.

Ditto. I had them welling, but they didn't go.

Nessun dorma" is an aria from the final act of Giacomo Puccini's opera Turandot. The aria, whose title translates from Italian as "Let no one sleep", follows the proclamation by the Princess Turandot that no one shall sleep: they shall all spend the night attempting to find out the name of the unknown prince, Calaf, who has set the challenge. Calaf sings, indicating his certainty that their effort will be in vain.

The aria achieved pop status after Luciano Pavarotti's rendition of it was used as the BBC's theme for the 1990 Football World Cup held in Italy. It has been that tenor's signature song outside Italy since the 70s, as his rendition of it garnered him worldwide fame.

The people on Britain / America's Got Talent can be and usually are low rent professionals trying to make it big.

Example David Hasselhoff

And I get paid for weddings and the occasional bar gig but I'd hardly call that professional. In the biz, professional usually means under contract or at least primary source of income.

This is deviating from my point. All I was pointing out is that the guy had more training/experience than we were led to believe.

Well, perhaps he could spend some of the £100k on some dental work, and also a few voice lessons to get rid of that awfully wide vibrato.
