Fifty Plus (50+) - White or Not, Take II

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

OK, enough with the white cr*p. Let's settle this once and for all. Take the poll, really this time.

Stating the color of one's bike does not equate to them stating their prefered color.
Stating the color of one's bike does not equate to them stating their prefered color.
Surely if it were the preferred colour, that is the colour they would have bought?
and then it would be the colour of their bike.

I'm not convinced all bike purchase decisions are driven by the color of the bike.
I own 4 bikes, 2 are silver, 1 is red, and 1 is blue. I can take or leave silver, red is not a favorite, and I do like blue.

White is obviously the best, but it's not fair to compare white in a poll with every other color lumped together. Just sayin.

Just having a little sillynes DeeG. Obviously the poll will not be statistically correct. Although if white was the best wouldn't logic say it would eclipse ALL other colors.

Currently, my main ride is white. It is a ~1993 Trek 800. I built it with a used frame from ebay... would have bought it whatever the color. Function trumps appearance.

In light, yes. In pigment, all the colors lumped together create black.
I am convinced that like me you are not driven by colour.
As I do not have a preferred colour.
I own 15 bikes and none of them are white

I should be able to vote two more times. All three of my bikes are non-white. :p

Just for the record, the color of my bikes had nothing to do with my preferences OR my decision to purchase. The Cannondale is blue because it was a birthday gift from my wife and that's the color they had in my size. The Atlantis is green and white (looks like Bianchi celeste, though Rivendell says it isn't) because I really wanted an Atlantis and that's the only color they came in. Ditto the orange Rambouillet, though I do like that color. The singlespeed is blue (my least favorite bike color except white) because I bought the frame used and that's the color it was. And my commuter is green because the other choice when I bought it 15 years ago was white..
But I thought white was every other color lumped together. :D
LOL!

White would be a good camouflage color during the winter months in Wisconsin.
Of course when riding on roads, being camouflaged is not always a good idea.

Specialized will come to their senses in their choice of colors for the 2008 Roubaix. In 2006 it was black & ti, in 2005 it was blue. After the disasterous sales of the 2007 white Roubaix, I'm sure we'll see a return to normalcy in 2008.

I have two vintage bikes - one all white and one mostly white. My regular commuter is burgandy/red with some white. I've seen some green bikes that look really nice.

You know by now that fair is not and has not been a part of the equation for quite some time. So too bad, we're ganging up on you and there is nothing you can do about it. :p

Only 14 bikes in our family - none are white. We do have a few white or cream panels and a few white stripes, but not much more than that. They were all paid for with GREEN bucks.

I'm not worried. White is clearly the best color, and will remain so, until I get my next new bike. :D

In light, yes. In pigment, all the colors lumped together create black.
But, if what we actually see is light reflected off of the bike, wouldn't that mean that black is actually white?
Now I have to change my vote.

I've owned 3 white bikes over the years and they are beautiful, but what happens, is that the paint gets micro-scratches in it after a year or so and the scratches fill with grease and dirt making the bikes frequently appear grungy. Of course, I'm assuming the owner spends more time riding than cleaning or posting on Bike Forums. :)

Not necessarily. I love red, yellow & orange but my bike (Specialized Dolce Comp) came in white only. That's why I voted white. It's what was available, not what I preferred.
If it is partly white.........how should I vote???

Geesh...as an engineer you should calculate the percentage of white and if it is less than 50% vote not white.:D

I don't know, Lance was seen holding the new Madone in white during it's official introduction. White may be here to stay for a few seasons.

Actually, I like white. I was just jerking DG's chain, which I'm sure he recognized.
I rode a Scott SUB10 Speed Utility Bike that was white and I really liked the look. And I just posted images to this forum of the new white Madones a couple of days ago.

Early poll returns suggest that the white bike voters are still out riding, not hanging out on BF. :D
White is no longer the most popular auto color (lost out to silver), can bikes be far behind?

Do you want to start a white vs. black poll?:)

My Reno is silver and black, but I wish I had bought the previous years model(05), which was kind of an off-white with the Lemond reversed out of a red stripe. Really liked that paint scheme, but hadn't talked myself into a road bike at that time. My mtn.bike is powdercoat blue, and I like it's color a lot. It was a replacement frame for a frame on which a weld had failed-the paint on that was called "blacklight" and was some paint job!! Everyone asks me if the blue replacement frame is original paint-don't know that I've ever seen another just like it, but that's the way the frame came, wasn't re-painted.

So... If the painter uses a light pigment, is white the new black?

I answered "yes" becaue my main road bike is white.
For my MTB, the answer is no, they're silver and yellow, but I'm working on a white Specialized HardRock as our #1 backup bike.
My Nishiki MUP rider isn't white either.

My frame was red in the shop, I prefer brown.......
so I had it resprayed before I bought it.

We've got 23 bikes in our garage, plus four more being prepped for the city give-away program. Not a single white one in the whole bunch. So....do I get one vote for each bike?
And my favorite bike color would be Mallard Green...don't have any of those in the garage either.
If it's any consolation, the house and garage are white. :D :D

But DG, I do have two white cars which is somewhat required living down here.

Isn't the Lemond mostly white. Actually if it is your statement makes a certain amount of sense.
Now that we are pretty much done ragging on DG about his white bike I must admit that the BMC next up in line from mine (which was over my budget by about $400) is white/orange. It's beautiful.

I'm ok with black, white or red. Don't care. But no orange. Ever. I like blue, but not on a bike. Let's not even talk about green.

One of my favorites is Mallard Green too.
But, and I almost hate to admit it, my current favorite is a dark orange metallic. I saw a Raleigh Cadent with this as its primary color, with silver accents, and I just loved it.

Well, it's 62-4, but there are still a few precincts not in yet, so we aren't quite ready to call this election.
