is there a difference between a tri shoe and a road shoe?

I'm a bike racer who is getting into tris and i was planning on getting new shoes soon anyways. Other the the single strap and the loop in the back is there anyother difference? Would it be worth just buying a tri shoe to cover both racing and tris? Thanks in advance.

not much difference than what you listed, tri shoes generally have more breathable material to dry your feet out and accommodate sock-less riding.

I think you'll find you get a snugger fit in the traditional road shoe. The tri shoe is built for speed to get into and out of quickly. The longer the race, the better you'll like the road shoe. The shorter the race, the more you'll like the tri shoe.
