Hi folks!
My name is Matt Yee. I am 27 and I live, bike and work in Hawaii as a graphic designer. My passion is bikes. Namely, old road bikes.
My first road bike was a red/chrome 1984 Raleigh Gran Prix. This was also the first bike I've owned with lugs. I'm a big fan of bikes with lugs.
The next bike i acquired was a 19?? Motiv road bike, which i turned into a singlespeed. Anyone got any info on this bike? It isn't one of those cheap Motiv's that you see at Costco, or around town. This is a very nicely crafted, steel lugged bike. I bought the frame from my friend, who had it powdercoated yellow.
My latest acquisition is an early 70's Masi. The paint job says "masi prestige", but the paint does not look original, possibly repainted and redecaled at the Masi factory by Alberto some years later. The cranks and the derailleurs are believed to be original; the rear derailleur says "71-patent." If this derailleur is at all indicative of its age, i'm guessing that means this is an early 70's italian gran criterium! Blah, but who knows, I'm probably just talking out of my a$$.
All of my bikes are commuters. Not every one gets taken out daily but each is ridden at least once a week. The Masi at this time, is being built up with new bars, new seat and a new rear wheel.
And i love all my bikes... I'm stuck at work at the moment and would love to go riding. It's a beautiful day.
Aloha,
Matt Yee
