Bicycle Mechanics - Rebuilding my old Schwinn and I need some (LOTS) of help.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I have an old (1990 or so) Schwinn 564 Aluminum road bike that I'm finally getting around to rebuilding and I'm a little lost. The bottom bracket needs to be replaced and I'm trying to find a suitable (and cheap) replacement, but I'm a little confused about the different sizes and types. I also don't know what tools I'll need to remove the crank arms and the bottom bracket.

Here's a pic of the crank if this helps anyone:

If someone could provide me with some links, model numbers, or images of what I need (parts, tools, etc.), that would be really helpful.

The next thing I need is a headset. My fork has a 1" threaded steerer and I'm wondering if this headset from Nashbar would be a decent replacement.

The chain also needs to be replace and I'm thinking of using this
chain from Nashbar (http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?category=76&subcategory=1099&brand=&sku=7175&storetype=&estoreid=). The bike has a Shimano 7-speed rear derailleur. I also need a new rear wheel (thanks to some theiving bastards) so I'm trying to locate a 126 mm 7-speed rear wheel/cassette. Does anyone know where I might find a nice rear wheel/cassette other than Ebay. Searching there hasn't turned up much.

I'm also in desperate need of brake lever hoods for these levers. Does anyone have a good source of this kind of stuff? Ebay has been less than helpful here also.

Thanks for any and all help. I know this is a lot of stuff to be asking. I'm pretty mechanically inclined, but I'm not too familar with bike maintenance.

You need a crank extractor to remove the cranks.

The 564 has a 68mm-wide bottom-bracket shell and I expect the spindle is about 115mm long (measure it end-to-end). So if my guess is correct, you'd shop for an English-threaded 68x115 bottom bracket (assuming you intend to re-use your Sport LX crankset). Shimano's UN-52 is a good all-around pick IMO.

Regarding headsets, it might use either a 26.6mm or 27.0mm crown-race diameter and I don't recall which one you'd have on a 564. This item also is best installed with the proper tools, so maybe you should buy it at the LBS and have them install it.

For brake hoods... those could be a tough one :(

On the chain, my vote goes to a Sachs PC-68. Sachs chains are strong and reliable, plus they're easy to put together with the included PowerLink. You'll still be needing a chain tool to shorten the chain.

For the brake hoods you can check icyclesusa they carry some.. and excelsports carries some different hoods.
