Excellent shots on that page. Both disturbing and beautiful. It reminds me of years ago when I spent a week in the deteriorating West Baden Springs Hotel. This was not long before part of one of the exterior walls collapsed. Just walking into that place was awe inspiring. Even though it was on the verge of falling down, it had been the largest free spanning dome in the U.S. from 1902 until the Astrodome was built in 1965.
There's no trash because there aren't any people to throw trash!
Once upon a time there were people there, and their trash would have stayed unless somebody picked it up.

Possible it was picked up as part of a community revitalization clean up. Also it looks to be laid out on a grid and it is close to a lake so the street trash may have blown further down to an area where someone picked it up. I do agree tho it did look pretty clear of garbage. I wonder too if people have been gone for quite a while how much of it had decomposed?

Gary, Indiana!
What a wonderful name,
Named for Elbert Gary of judiciary fame.
Gary, Indiana, as a Shakespeare would say,
Trips along softly on the tongue this way--
Gary, Indiana, Gary Indiana, Gary, Indiana,
Let me say it once again.
Gary, Indiana, Gary, Indiana, Gary, Indiana,
That's the town that "knew me when."
If you'd like to have a logical explanation
How I happened on this elegant syncopation,
I will say without a moment of hesitation
There is just one place
That can light my face.
Gary, Indiana,
Gary Indiana,
Not Louisiana, Paris, France, New York, or Rome, but--
Gary, Indiana,
Gary, Indiana,
Gary Indiana,
My home sweet home.

Yeah and housing would be real cheap too.....
What I think a lot of people aren't realizing here is that all those empty factory buildings compromise most of the JOBS you'd have to choose from. Well that and the liquer stores that sell glass pipes and baking soda.....
Most of the people who wanted to work for a living moved out a long time ago--and that means white people, black people and everybody else. The only people left were too old/too poor to move, or not interested in employment....
