This is the usual industrial crit I always go in. The Cs. The authorites of the race would not let me enter the Bs this week.
Me: " I want to go in the Bs again this week because there is the Yailtown crit I want to enter 2 weeks from now"
Authority: " How many points do you have in the Cs?"
"I haven't any"
" Stay in the Cs and do some work"
"I want experience in a crowded field"
"Go in the Cs and get some points"
"I got 10th in the Bs last week, and was 9th in the ominum last year"
"10th is nothing. Race in the Cs and win. Listen to us, we have experience, stay in the Cs and get some points."
" Grrrr..... *hangs head* Ok"

Here is the report!
We are 18 in the Cs lining up for what is the race that marks my 1st year of racing.
The two usual suspects are there ready to win it as they always do. Sandbaggers, yes they are, but they sure have upped the competitiveness. I have come into the line hot from an aggressive warm up to be ready for the inevitable sprint start. The 2 winners do the same: Usually, at the Go they hit it hard and break away leaving the field split. Well I'm ready for this.
Go. And they don't.
Ok.
They hit it one lap in and I’m in to a full-on head down sprint to hang on. It worked.
7 of us sprinters are in the break away and we all take turns pulling and keeping the pace steady. The broken off group does not catch us. I’m thinking, all I need to do is pass 2 to get 5th and some points.
On the last 4 laps I do my best to conserve energy. Save it up for the sprint.
Energy saved. Sprint unleashed. The rush of passing people left and right.
