"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - ***Official Tour of the Hilltowns/BikeForums Northeast Showdown, 2007 Thread***

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Alright....guess we can use this thread for any updates, discussions, friendly wagers, talking smack, etc. etc.

First things' first.....I was talking to Greg earlier, and we came up with perhaps doing a fairly informal group ride a couple weeks before the race - obviously this would apply to those folks in the New England area. A nice "mellow" pace for the most part (key word being "most")....how 'bout the weekend of August 4th? Now....we just need to figure out a fairly centralized location and a route. Oh....and a list of participants.

Post up yer names, and I'll make a list.

Second....we need to recruit some more peoples in the area to race, and then to attend the after-race bash at the Northampton Brewery (pending permission from Greg's people). Good times shall be had.

Oh, and Vino, if you're reading this, feel free to hop on a plane with your bike on the 17th. Just be sure to pre-reg soon. And Zimbo...you're only in N. Carolina. That's less than a 12 hour drive (I've made it to Myrtle Beach, SC from north of Hartford, CT in under 12 hours). And Snuffle....if your knees are fully functional by then, maybe you can carpool with Zimbo :D. Anyone else???

This would be the Cat 3 race of all races. Oh, and my buddy from work is looking forward to racing against you guys as well :D

All of this is thanks to Greg!

I think we all (especially me) owe him one (or more).

I'm honored to even be mentioned. You guys would eat me for lunch.

I'll still be at Fat Camp in Utah until mid-August. After that I might be up for something like this, though.

You guys could always come down to the NC/SC RR Championships on Sept 1st.

I will be back in town. Was thinking of doing the NYS TT championships (as long as they accept OSM) but maybe I should make the trek out your way. Any REAL climbs? And with it be the P/1/2/3 or the 3/4 event?

It's on the 18th Steve...

If carpooling is an option I'd give the idea serious consideration :)

I'll be going there after 7-10 days off the bike, sitting in a car, driving along the Mississippi. Ideal training. :D

Yes, you may be onto something with your training plan... Nothing like 1500+ foot climbs on blocked up legs :D

Fayettenam is only an 11 hour drive to MA ;). Maybe you can meet up with Dr. Petey en route.

Besides, where else are you going to get Cypress, Penguin, Dr. Bill, and botto in the same race?

Alright....who else is in...

P-diddy better show up.

I need to upgrade to a 4 ASAP so I can change over to the 3/4's for ****s and giggles. Not that I plan on finishing anywhere close to you guys, but it would be fun to be in the same race for at least the first 20 miles.

who said anything about finishing?

1. when i started college, our l'il baby faced assassin KP was still wearing diapers (i assume he no longer does).

2. where i live the only climb worth talking about is over 20 miles away, and it's less than 1km long.

GuitarWizard
06-16-07, 11:04 AM
Yep....they have a combined 3/4 field. After this weekend, I'll have 3 races under my belt. So...only gotta do 7 races in the next month or so to upgrade.

Things are looking semi-optimistic for me to make it up there--just need to make sure I can clear the vacation time with the dept. chief where I'll be rotating...

After today at Housatonic, I'm thinking I'm going to A) need the 34T chainring for Hilltowns, and B) really need to figure out what is wrong with my back. It is HOSED.

Race report to follow in another thread.

What kind of hills are out there? I'm used to long 6-7% stuff.

Short and steep or what?

I am in Jersey that weekend, so the possibility is open. It will be a mater of a) if I can schedule the time of for racing, and b) where I decide to go. Right now the NYS TT champs are a possibility, this race is, but I have also been told there is a possible race which could count towards a NJ state competition that weekend. If I go it will be fun, but I have a feeling that with significant climbs, I will be joining the OTB club. :)

OTB in meaning "owning the bunch" right?

Your FTP is near my VO2 power...you weigh less, and I don't suffer worse than most in 3/4 climbs.

Well it appears that the initial excitement and anticipation of the great TOTHT has fizzled.

Doc Pete will be doing what he should be doing and that is saving lives and not racing bikes and guzzling micro brews.

Botto is MIA along the Mississippi with his father.

Guitar Wizard has been off the bike all month and looks doubtful.

Pcad was a no from the invite.

Cypress is looking to get off the bike and back into life...He is doubtful for an appearance.

Killer penguin is a probable show. He can't get enough pain in his life.

Me...the lower back is not good so I will be driving one of the official cars and buying beer for all of the tired riders at the post race party.

So if you are coming let me know...the drinks are on me. :)

Did my 35 mile loop yesterday, which on most normal days I can damn near do in my sleep and still finish in well under 2 hours. I felt like I wanted to die by the end of it. I think I'm fighting an infection now after my surgery, so.....I highly doubt I'll be racing, as I don't feel like DNF'ing. As it is, I haven't been able to stay awake past 1 p.m. each day without having to take a nap of 2-5 hours. Not good....

While I appreciate the invite, the only way I'll travel specifically to ride my bike is if T-Mobile signs me for at least $500K annually. That would have to be guaranteed for 5 years and there would have to be a $1 million dollar guaranteed signing bonus.

Let me know when that deal becomes available.

When I got my USCF license in 1993, KP was about 8 years old. I would imagine he was faster than Pcad then too.

ElJamoquio
08-13-07, 09:56 AM
T-Mobile: ElJamoquio is available for $100K per year with a $200K bonus. Although I prefer the CSC jerseys.

FYI, to everyone else: I'm waiting with baited breath for the results. When's the race, again?
