Recumbent - burning feet and sunburn

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

These are two different issues.
I went on my longest ride (longest on a recumbent) yesterday of over 41 miles. The ride home was slow becasue I was in so much pain. My toes and bottom of my feet were on fire. I know it is a nerological thing related to my cleats.
My cleats are the farthest back they can be.
I had just installed knee savers. The knees were helped, but the hot foot was worse. Maybe I just need time to adjust to the kneesavers?
This was rARELY IF EVER A PROBLEM ON MY df BIKE (but I wouldn't go back)
the problem really only came up after 20 miles (my previous distance on my zoomer)
Any input is appreciated
ALSO
I am now wanting to know an outfit ( long sleep and pants, ) that will be very light but block the sun.
Apparently last years sun block had lost it's zing and I have lobstered face, shins, and above the knees.
Thanks, especially on the hot foot, I want to get back to my commute and that's the run I did yesterday.

You didn't say what kind of recumbent you are riding, but if it has a high bottom bracket (feet higher than seat), that combined with blood circulation problems in your legs, may be the cause of your foot discomfort.

It's a WW Zoomer elite, not sure if that's considered a high BB bike. after spending that money I love it and have to find a way to make this work.
Are you using road or MTB shoes, When I bought mine I found the road shoes to be stiffer and so bought a pair, on long rides I still get a bit of a "hot" spot at the cleats, certainly not painful just noticable.
I am pleased I did not buy the softer soled MTB shoes (I am sure some MTB shoes are stiffer but not in my price bracket at the time).
Next time I need shoes I will be looking for even stiffer ones.
One other possibility that others have mentioned in previous threads is to make sure you don't over tighten the shoes as it may effect blood flow, and your feet are already up reasonably high.

Nike Kato III strap shoes
I have some balance issues so would rather keep MTB shoes but will consider stiffer ones next time I buy
I have a low bb LWB bent. A few times last summer I felt my feet heating up so got a pair of those cycling sandals with SPD's. No problem so far this year.
The 'recumbent foot' or whatever they call it, is usually only experienced with people riding higher bb bikes. Someone might have a suggestion to reduce it or take it away other than going to a lower bb bike.

the the Bent group failed to warn me about sun burns on knee caps and ankels which I never had before and was dam sore , I bought tropicana sp70 sun block it really works great.
I bought spf 60 after spending 6 days in Louisiana/Mississippi riding my SWB. I never had burned shins like that before. Dont forget your ears and neck too!

I got some SPF 50 and some white running lycra pants as an extra layer of protection
Sometimes (on the 40 miler) it was the balls of my feet
sometimes (yesterday 22 miles) it was my toes
I ordered some new pedals (yellow candy C's) These will match my bike and give some platform under my feet, we will see if that helps
If I can get the problem to stay away for 20 miles I can take a break
Will a 3-4 hour break (summer school class) be enough?
Thanks for the input so far
