If so, what kind of stem do you use? I got a set of NOS powerlite mini bars (powerlite were/are the best BMX bars ever made in my opinion). I'm just not sure what kind of stem. I would really like a DK Cruiser stem, but they are expensive and hard to find these days...

am i'm sure you know, threaded bmx stems are few and far between. they can be pretty cool on a non-bmx bike though:

this appears to be sniks bike, with GT bmx quill stem.

there aren't too many threaded road stems that have a removable front to get bmx bars in. the salsa SUL is the only one that comes to mind right now that's readily available.

BMX stems definitely appear to be "in" for the moment,
or in the process of coming in. I had Powerlite Mini Bars
on my ELF. I think they're probably my all-time favorites.

sold that bike but still have bars and stem.

I bet you could find a shim that would work great

Why am I going to need a shim? I thought it was the same diameter?

I had a set of experts that spanned my 3 Haros and a GT. The team I raced for wasn't happy because of our sponsorship, but I just refused to switch the bars. The only way I would have done that is if I had got a full factory ride, which I was semi-close to before I moved to DC and there were no BMX tracks within 100 miles =/ As far as in, I had the idea for awhile, then I saw a picture and that was that. The search was on. I haven't seen a single person in DC with a BMX style setup, but I wouldn't care if I saw several. My Jamis single speed is a true beater, I bunny hop it, take it off jumps, run it into and over stuff on a daily basis. BMX setup would make it all the better.

Oh, I don't know about that. I was just searching for
replacement stems for my Torker and I saw probably
twenty or more threaded 1" BMX stems on eBay. Many
of them cost between $10 and $20, even with shipping.

I have a gt mini stem and its a little bit smaller than 1 inch so i shimmed it but I was thinking a shim on the handle bars to make it fit a road or track stem

Jesus man, you cut down powerlite MINI bars?! How much of your hand covers the 'power curve'?

So, is it safer to shim in the clamping area of the bar, or put a shim in the fork? How hard is it to remove from the fork?
